  • I remember a mate of mine had one(1.9 in red) and I had a few turns behind the wheel. My first impressions were that - even then - it had the crash safety of a crisp packet and the gear change was less "rifle bolt" in action and more "stirring blancmange". But then I drove it more and... yeah it was sublime and light and responsive and involving and all those other buzzwords we are used to today when describing (IMHO) far lesser "Driver's Carsâ„¢" of the modern era(or is that Postmodern era? I dunno, I'm getting old). The suspension setup was alone worth the price of admission. Well, French folks were the masters of that end of things for a long time. It didn't suffer fools gladly(which put me in an awkward position), it wasn't "fast" on paper, but it was quick on the road and it rewarded good drivers.
