  • Many people consider "truck" to be the highest compliment they can give to vehicle. So if they don't like a vehicle with a bed, it's not a truck. This seems to be an impractical line of thought to me. The Santa Cruz is a pickup truck the same way a VW Caddy is a pickup truck or a Chevy Avalanche is a pickup truck. It's a vehicle with an open bed separate from the cabin. Now, is it good at what it tries to do? I.E. be a crossover that's easier to carry messy things in? It seems so. Would I buy one? Not a chance.

  • The Santa Cruz is a pickup, but not a pickup "truck". The term "truck" refers to a utility vehicle with body-on-frame structure. The more accurate term is "ute", which is a term that has evolved from Australia. Once those were body-on-frames, but they evolved to unibody structures decades ago and have been around a lot longer than their presence lasted in the United States.
