Netherlands to Barcelona for the weekend just to eat an icecream on the beach. Also Basel on a round trip for the day. Saint tropez in a day. Finland for a short week... You get the point. I do that stuff on a monthly basis. You'll soon get used to it. Ow yeah, and in Mini's of all sorts (yes that includes JCWs). ;)
You like motorways? Don't like planes? Hope you like mountain roads as much... I would spend all my driving time up and down hills, mountains, alps... The rest i find of little worth

You can drive farther than that and still be in California! I take my 500 on trips like this all the time and love it.
