The fact that you have to compare it to a Golf or Civic these days just says it all: The Mini has grown up and I don't think that's a good thing. It should still be competition to the Fiesta ST and Clio RS. The Mini R53 was that kind of small throw-around hot hatch. Now it's like the large obese brother of that R53. The looks still want you to convince it's a small fun hatch, but it isn't anymore.
But I still like how it looks to be honest. The styling is certainly more fun than a Golf GTI.
You’re right on a few counts. It’s bigger and way more expensive than it should be, taking itself out of a good spot in its segment. It’s a shame, as it’s a decent car.
You must have a very heavy right foot! I've done nearly 500 miles in mine in the last week and got 47.3 miles to the imperial gallon, and this included some fun in Sport mode. Mine is tuned to nearly 290hp so maybe those boasts about tuning helping fuel economy hold some water. I also find it a joke that Mini sell a fully-loaded car in the US for almost £10k less than it would cost in the UK.
EPA MPG estimates are 23/33/27, so I have no idea how you pulled that off. In any case, I’m not too heavy in the throttle, but did mostly city driving, and it still wasn’t hitting its marks.

Grey does go well with thaat pink it kinda reminds me of a nike shoe too but I kinda like it
