All Electric

  • Range isn’t important in internal combustion vehicles because gas stations are everywhere. Electric not so much. I buy the car that gives me the most for my money. Stereo system, horsepower, torque, suspension, cargo room, gas mileage, head and legroom, curb appeal, insurance etc. why I drive a Golf.

  • Not the range, charging time is the problem. When it gets to be a 5 min business, it'll do.

That is, without going into EVs' questionable ethics.

  • But most people do buy a single car for all of their journey types. We're not all as rich as Chris Harris. That's why it's not unreasonable to demand a car that can handle more than just a commute (not that many people do that any more). For me, the time to recharge is more important as I don't want to spend 30-40 minutes charging when I can fill up with petrol in less than 5. Couple long charging times with low range and your annual trip to the Highlands is taking 2 hours longer each way. And the third issue is the charging infrastructure: at the moment it has patchy coverage and chargers that are often already in use, broken or incompatible.

    • I just liked the quote. I do see your point, hopefully with a combination of longer range batteries and more charge points we may equal ICEs convenience

  • As I keep trying to tell Mr Musk, who's half Canadian, but apparently doesn't give a damn... AWD that qualifies for the government rebate and at least 300km range, everything else is gravy !!! I'm a car guy, I'd love to have a petrol hobby car in the future, but right now AWD for winter, full electric for less moving parts that need maintenance and I say 300km range because I feel thats the basic distance needed to still do a road trip in an electric car to cover a nice distance before you get out to have a cup of tea and stretch your legs while it fast charges and you can still cover 1000km a day with only 2-3 breaks... My point being, I'd sacrifice range for AWD and a govt rebate ! Also, one of the most addictive things about electric cars is the torque, so I still want enough power to beat the average tailgating asshole in a petrol powered gurman car off the line at the lights!!! (so he/she can try and race me, only to get pulled over by the pig that waze says is down the road...)

  • I have an I Pace and live in the UK, it does 90% of journeys without needing any extra charge. The occasions where I am delayed by a stop at a service station and have to queue to get on a charger is offset by never setting off for a journey in the morning that I’m running late for and realising I’m low on fuel. Driving an EV is also awesome fun. Puts a smile on my face every day.
