You are lucky. I was born in 1974. The automotive industry, particularly in the US, was in the middle of the fuel crisis. There were five standouts making their debut: Lamborghini Countach, Jeep Cherokee, Toyota Corolla and the VW Scirocco and Golf.
This is from a time that Consumer Reports recommended the the Ford Pinto as a Best Buy and the Camaro had 100hp.
There are certainly some great designs from the period, but not much in the way of performance outside of the European sports cars like the Countach, Stratos, 911 Turbo, etc. By 1974 the Corvette was only getting 270hp out of its 7.4L (454ci)...
True to form, LOTUS of 'Loads Of Trouble, Usually Serious' fame, decided that fitting a plastic car with a Rover engine would be a 'good idea'. Both items being well known for their robustness and longevity, which is why the wretched things are just EVERYWHERE these days !

The 1970s were really the dark ages of the automotive world.
That’s very interesting Jason! The 70s in my opinion generated some beautiful and very iconic cars which are still loved today!
