10 attainable watches on my wish list

I spend way too much time on Ebay and Amazon

In no particular order, here are some relatively attainable watches currently on my Ebay and Amazon watchlists.

1. Orient Neo-70s Panda

I absolutely love panda dial watches, especially in a black on white configuration as seen here. To make things even better, it's an Orient, a sub-brand of Seiko, which means it will have great quality for the price and will be decently reliable. These usually retail for under $400.

2. Orient Bambino

Another great offering from Orient, this time in the form of a great looking automatic dress watch. Most can be had for under $200.

3. Orient Ray II

It won't all be Orient, I promise. I had to include this watch, though, because I love the way it looks. The fit and finish on this particular watch also seems very high for its price point. Most can be found for under $200.

4. Seiko Recraft SSC667 Solar Chronograph

I absolutely love the retro look of this watch. the pale blue on black works really well here. It is also a solar watch, so it requires no charging, as it is powered by light. Once fully charged, it has a 6 month power reserve. Most can be found for under $500.

5. Certina DS-2 Chronograph

While I haven't heard very much about this brand, what I have heard is pretty positive, and they seem like a pretty good entry level Swiss brand. Most of these can be found for under $300.

6. Bulova Surfboard Chronograph

I have recently started to like watches with retro styling, and this is one of my favorites. The color combination seen here works really well for me. These can be found anywhere from $300 to over $500.

7. New Bulova Computron

Ok. Now I know that many of you will probably hate this one, and I can understand that. But I personally think that bringing back a retro watch like this is extremely cool. These can be found for under $200.

8. Tissot V8 Chronograph

The Tissot V8 Chronograph takes its styling from racing, and I love the way it looks, especially in green. It also has the advantage of being Swiss made. I have found several of these for under $300.

9. AVI-8 Hawker Hunter

AVI-8 is an aviation themed microbrand that I am a bit unsure about. From what I have read, they are known for having questionable quality, and use some cheap movements. However, I am deeply in love with the styling of this watch. Being an aviation enthusiast and student pilot, I love how this watch looks like an altimeter. I also love the blue. These can be found for under $300.

10. 1963 Seagull Reissue

I love love this watch for a few reasons. Firstly, I love the vintage look. Secondly, I think the red star of communism and the Chinese characters on it are quite cool. Third, its based off of an old Chinese air force watch. It also doesn't hurt that the movement is quite nice to look at. These can be found for under $200.

  • Out of these, I like the Computron and the Seagull the most. My next purchase will probably be a Vostok of sorts though. I just haven't decided which one yet, and since I have plenty of watches it's not a pressing matter.

  • I paid about £6 for a wind-up Timex over 40 years ago. It still works perfectly. It tells the time as well as my phone does. I bought a battery powered watch in stainless-steel, strap and all. It has the Trabant (former East German 2-stroke car manufacturer, long gone) logo on the face. It cost £15 about 10 years ago. It's still working flawlessly and now on battery number two. Again, as good at telling the time as my phone. What am I missing here?

    • Nothing wrong with that! As I see it, there are three things which woukd make me pick a more expensive watch over a cheap one: style, quality finish, and time keeping accuracy. Though your timex may tell the time properly, it is nowhere near as...

    • For time accuracy, you literally cannot beat your internet connected mobile phone. In reality, unless you're a scientist, time is not required to be that accurate. My old grandfather clock had but a single hand that marked the hours. You...
