1,000 BHP BATTLE - Ferrari SF90 vs Tesla Plaid DRAG RACE

Comparing two 1,000 BHP cars on the drag strip

Undoubtedly the Ferrari is the nicer car overall, as it should be for 4x the price - looks and sounds fantastic and would certainly win on a track with superior handling.

Head-to-head on the drag strip 1/4 mile is an interesting comparison as they should be very close, both with around 1,000 BHP and both are full production cars, anyone, with enough money, could buy, not limited production run specials or modified.

Brooks Weisblat is lucky enough to own both, along with many other nice supercars. Watch his latest video for some close drag racing.

It's probably not a huge surprise that Tesla wins, abet only just. However, I was surprised it could win when the power is so similar yet the Tesla is MUCH heavier. As Brook speculates it may be the combination of instant electric torque and no gear changes that make up for the weight disadvantage. Although the Ferrari is actually a hybrid, so does have some electric advantages too.

The other interesting takeaway is how the Tesla keeps pulling away even at the top end - traditional the previous Tesla Model S Performance was a winner off the line but lacked high-end power so you would see other cars closing the gap down the strip.

It's a shame Tesla doesn't have a motorsport division like BMW and Mercedes do. They could do with offering a sport version as BMW does with the M5 CS - the Plaid could do with a sports option with better brakes, suspension and aero for those that want a more focussed car and to use on the track. In the meantime, a trip to Performance Unplugged could fill the gap. Maybe Tesla will buy them one day like Mercedes bought AMG?

If you want to see a couple of other races with these cars take a look.

Brook races the Tesla Model S Plaid against the Rimac Nevera, unsurprising the Tesla gets destroyed:

And Matt at CarWow races the Rimac Nevera vs the Ferrari SF90, again of course the Rimac wins. As you'd expect to a car with over 1,900 BHP and costing almost 5x more.

  • OF course the Plaid is going to win. Plus, I'd much rather have a Tesla Plaid than a Ferrari SF90. I mean, why go for the slower car? =)

    • I wish I was Brook and could have both :-)

    • I wish I had Brook's money as well so I could get any car I want. Right now, I'd love to have a Rivian, even if I have no use for such a big car.
