12 exciting things we spotted in The Grand Tour ‘Lochdown’ trailer
Which are you most looking forward to?
The Grand Tour has released the trailer for its upcoming ‘Lochdown’ special where the trio take to the roads of Scotland in three big American muscle cars. We’ve been through the trailer with our microscope and have spotted a few things Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May have done which have made us very excited for the upcoming episode – airing on 30 July.
1. Hammond has a crash
It wouldn’t be a proper episode of The Grand Tour if Richard didn’t have a crash, would it? This time, he looks to have taken a corner too sharply and ended up in a ditch – much like in Bolivia when he managed to get his Land Cruiser stuck in a massive hole at the side of one of the world’s most dangerous roads. Unfortunately for Hammond, he had a caravan attached to the back of his car this time and the aftermath looked rather messy.
2. Scotland looks beautiful as always
This may come across as a moot point because Scotland is always pretty, but it’s definitely worth a mention. James even says in the voiceover that ‘this promises to be the most beautiful drive we’ve ever done’. Not only does the trio visit some spectacular looking places throughout their journey, but the way the camera crew film and edit the footage is on another level. This show can always be praised for its magnificent appearance – even if there is a lot of falling over.
3. The cars break down… as expected
Another staple in an episode of The Grand Tour – aside from Hammond crashing – is the cars breaking down. Not only does it make for excellent television, but it is also hilarious to see them try and figure out the various problems. The one moment which sticks out in this trailer is when Hammond’s car seemingly overheats in traffic in a quaint part of Scotland – probably annoying many residents.
4. They get stuck on narrow Scottish roads
Much like the time the trio went to Italy in three ‘warm’ hatches and failed to navigate the tight streets of Lucca, they also get stuck in narrow roads in Scotland. This time they’re in great big American muscle cars, which makes it that bit more tricky to maneuver around roads originally built for horses.
5. Jeremy gets stuck
Remember when Jeremy got stuck in the waters of the Amazon rainforest on an episode of Top Gear? Well, he also gets stuck here, but this time while trying to get out of the window of his car. We assume he did this because he either couldn’t open the door, or he was trying to be like James Bond – either way, his ape-like frame wasn't having it.
6. James feels like Elvis Presely
Being the only presenter with a university degree James considers himself to be quite the musician. In the trailer of the new special, James refers to himself as ‘feeling like Elvis Presely’ – although we highly doubt that is because of Presely's music skill, but more because of the car he is in. This predictably leads Jeremy nicely into a toilet death joke too.
7. Abbie Eaton makes an appearance
After an absence of a few episodes, Abbie Eatonmakes an appearance in the upcoming special. From what we can gather in the trailer, the racing driver is setting a lap time in another American car for the three presenters to beat. Whether they succeed or not, we don’t know, but they’d be hard pressed to because Abbie is a cracking racing driver as she has proved many times, not just on the show, but in her racing career too.
8. The trio customises their cars in true Grand Tour style
Whenever the trio venture out in second hand cars, they end up customising them. We have seen this in every single previous episode of The Grand Tour including ‘A Massive Hunt’ and ‘Seamen’.
This time, it looks as if the trio has turned their cars into sportier versions. James and Jeremy went for two different cars with a classic ‘two stripes on the bonnet’ look, while Richard went for a much bigger engine and a rear wing – as expected. We can’t wait to see what else they’ve done.
9. They fail to build a good bridge… again
Remember when the trio had to build a bridge over the ‘River Kok’ in Burma to drive lorries across? Well, it looks like they’ve done a similar thing here – except this bridge looks even less stable than before. We can see them struggling to build it and also trying to drive over it… with what looks like a predictable result.
10. Caravan building makes a comeback
When Clarkson told DriveTribe the new special was like the old days, we didn’t think it would draw quite so many parallels. From the trailer, we can see the three lads with three different caravans which they have clearly made themselves. Richard’s is covered in tin foil, James’ looks like a cow, and Jeremy’s is nowhere to be seen – any ideas what he’s done with his?
11. Jeremy and Richard annoy James… as usual
Like in almost every single episode of the show, Jeremy and Richard always somehow find a way to annoy poor James. This time, they filled his caravan with water, which is like filling someone’s bedroom with water – it’s not very pleasant. It wouldn’t surprise us if this was a nod to the Mozambique special where James kept getting splashed by his own fish tank in the back of his Mercedes.
12. Jeremy fails to mend a car
Lastly, Jeremy fails to mend a seemingly simple problem. The other two stand around and watch him trying to place the cover on his air filter. This isn’t the first time he has struggled to mend his car and we doubt it’ll be the last.

The Grand Tour boys are back in town! @tribe
Double Points for Abbie. She'll never be Sabine, but nobody will ever be Sabine.
There was only one Sabine. Sigh.
But nobody catches fire! That's an improvement 😂😂😂
Jeremy and Richard annoy James? Awesome.
