£140,000 for a Polestar 1 ?!?!
Here's what you could buy if you got a regular S60 and a bonus car for the same price!!!
The Polestar 1 is without a doubt an incredible car in terms of the evolution and development of hybrid technology in cars. Geely's sub-brand's sub-brand has pulled out all the stops in making this thing function as brilliantly as it looks. 4.2 seconds it takes to do 60mph from a standstill. Many many horsepower units and capable of great speeds (if it isn't limited), but this all tots up the cost in the grand scheme of things, and Polestar have put a hefty price tag of 140,000 pounds on this thing. Now given you will essentially feel that you're in a glorified S90 (which starts at 36k) I think that is not a price worth paying, even if you have the dosh to hand. So with a base S90...
Rumour has it not one person ever thought this car was ugly....ever.
...what other sports-mad options could you explore and enjoy for the Polestar price. Well here's some alternative bangers!
Porsche Taycan 4S (plus the S90 remember):
Ohhhhhhh yes, it's an electric Porsche. Suffice to say you'd expect great things.
My difficult one-way relationship with the German sports brand is so complicated that even I myself can't explain it. But I certainly know where I stand with this car, the Taycan 4S. It's all the EV you'll ever need, but slightly budgeted back from the Turbo trim in order to make way for our assisting S90 that replaces the Polestar. This is the sort of car that makes you feel better about modernising yourself out of the ICE era but also not losing out, because the ICEs will be in your dust in the end. This car is pretty much everything Porsche needed to do to make an EV that people (granted, wealthy people) would actually buy. It's got four seats, it's a beautiful model, and it is one hell of a drive (not my words given the furthest I've gotten in my driving life was a 2019 Citroen). This is a true car, and what a delight it's turned out to be. My question is, to the Porsche hardcore fans out there, are YOU happy with what Stuttgart have done here?
Also worth noting before we move on, with every car we'll do our maths to confirm we're inline with budget.
£36,000 (base S90) + £83,000 (chosen car) = £119,000.
Dacia Sanderos available with leftovers: 2.5 (approx.)
*Keep in mind the Polestar 1 costs £140,000*
Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (+S90 still)
Definetely the school bully of the car industry. When not on the track, chases little Picantos demanding they hand over their petrol money.
Personal distastes aside, this is one hell of a monster. Well actually it's more of a car but it's monstrously powerful and has more presence than Barack Obama on a visit to Hawaii. The Shelby GT500 would be unaffordable alongside the S90 on Polestar budgets you might think, but alas it works out! And you aren't even stretching out the hypothetical boat of finance at all! A racetrack's worst nightmare and a swedish luxo-saloon. What a combination that'd be.
If it's your thing, I would say go ahead, it just wouldn't nearly be mine.
Undeniably cool, said even by me. Just don't quote me on it.
£36,000 + £52,000 = £88,000
Dacia Sanderos available after purchase: 6.5
Mercedes AMG GT 63 (and even an S90!)
Given my inability to comprehend and decifer how pathetic the range of names at Mercedes is, I settled for this image to represent the AMG GT 63. Whether it's that car or not is beyond me. I don't like it anyway so it's lucky it was even mentioned.
Ah yes, a 4 door powerhouse from Germany, you can trust in goodness there. Predictable brilliance, but brilliance nonetheless. This car stretches our budget about as far as it goes, in fact depending on who you ask it may just tip the scale slightly. Regardless this car will give you everything you've ever needed in life, in return for all of your money.
Powered by a 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8, this super-coupé gives out 577bhp and a 0-60 time of an astonishing 3.1 seconds! And that's not even the S edition.
What annoys me is that its another one of those coupés that just went too far and has ended up being a borderline shooting brake, disappointingly ruining the beauty of the famous sports coupé body type. But hey that's to be left with the individual to decide.
Not terribly out there, but the engine alone will make up for that. And even so it's no ugly machine.
£36,000 + £140,000 = £136,000
Dacia Sanderos available after purchase: 0.5 (good luck with that one)
Tesla Model S Plaid (didn't know that would be affordable with the S90 either):
I'll really never know what I think.......
Ooo yes, aren't we modern. Two EVs already mentioned, I'm almost surprised. Either way this is the Tesla Model S Plaid as you know, and with an S90 you still will not have spent more the all important 140k pricetag of the 1 (still a terrible name). The Plaid boasts numbers and capabilities that no matter what side of this cars existence you fit into, are simply incredible. 1,020hp. 836km range. 0-60 in 1.9 exhilarating seconds and all at a pricetag 85,000 reasonably-great british pounds. That's quite exceptional, and this comes from someone who can't really say they're the biggest fan.
Still in denial about EVs? Avoid this then. But those who aren't, enjoy.
Mmm I think I'm tempted.
£36,000 + £85,000 = £121,000
Dacia Sanderos available after purchase: 2.625
The existence of this very car is the reason I would never consider a GT500. It's a couple of grand more expensive than the Ford, but if you're armed with an undying bias and eyes that seek beauty, this option makes a lot more sense. The F-Type is arguably more road-orientated and therefore would immediately take my win, sacrificing the stats war to the Mustang. Still though, it's no slacker, and the slanted, aggressive eyes aren't the only things that intimidate other vehicles on the road. Jaguar's R trim offers 575bhp, 3.5 seconds for 60mph and will at best do 186mph (ok so it beats the Ford on that at least lmao).
Now this choice will leave you with an abundance of money leftover, nearly enough to buy a whole other sports car altogether. This would definetely be my favourite so far. Now we just hope it won't be killed off.
£36,000 + £59,000 = £95,000
Dacia Sanderos available after purchase: 5.625
Can I stop now?
I think you get the idea that there are MANYYYY worthy alternatives to the costly Polestar 1, especially considering that these are also available with a base trim S90 too! I hope you enjoyed, and do say if you actually want a second edition because I have so many unused options. If you don't, also tell me not to make it so I don't end up wasting my time.
Either way hope you enjoyed, and t h a n k y o u for reading.
