1700 HP EVO With Massive Turbo Just Became World's Quickest Evo
With a 13,000 RPM Engine
Before we go on about how insane this quarter mile sprint really is, we have to commend the drivers who are crazy enough to pilot it down the straight. Not only do you need superhuman reaction times but also the ability to give precise steering inputs to keep it down the narrow straight. Any more or any less steering will certainly mean sending the car to the barriers.
The guys at ExtremeTuners' just created the fastest Mitsubishi EVO (7th, 8th, and 9th generation) with the 4G63 turbo engine, setting a world record of 7.902 seconds in the quarter mile. There are faster cars out there, but there's no other faster EVO. To set this achievement ExtremeTuners went on to great lengths modifying their EVO:
- Engine Modifications to achieve 13,000 RPM - 2000 horsepower capable
- Destroked engine to 1800 cc
- 91 mm turbo with carbon fiber impeller
- Very high strength rods - 970 mPa (140 ksi)
- 15.8 compression ratio
- Tungsten crankshaft and Titanium valves
The record setting run was achieved at a 1,700 horsepower tune. Their following run was set at 2,100 horsepower tune, where the engine proceeded to slip and damage the clutch. The craziest part of this video (besides the EVO going down the straight like a bucking bronco) was the tachometer acting all looney as the engine went all the way up to 13,000 RPM.
