Photographed in August 2018 at Gosford Classic Cars, NSW, Australia
This Holden was used as a promotional vehicle for the first Australian built car - the 48/215 (known as the FX)
Originally sent to the Czech Republic as a mobile bill-board, it remained there for many years.
Subsequently taken to Switzerland, it remained there for a further 20 years before being return to Australia.
It actually looked like paint, but was evidently wrap. Amazing.
Holden 48-215 Facts
The 48-215 was first Australian produced car, and the first to bear the Holden name.
Holden was owned by General Motors, and ceased manufacturing in 2017.
The 48-215 was produced between 1948 and 1953.
A total of 120,402 48-215's were built.
The engine is an in-line 6 cylinder of 2160cc capacity. Overhead valves and pushrods were present. Output is 60 hp. Commonly known as the "Grey Motor". Later models were Red. Guess what they were called?
The only transmission available was a 3-speed manual, with a column-mounted gearshift.
The 48-216 seated 6, with a wide front Bench seat.
No seat-belts!
In the spirit of Henry Ford (Cheap!) only 4 colours were available. Gawler Cream, Black, Seine Blue and Convoy Grey.
Due to the availability of lots of after-market parts and the low cost of vehicles, 48-215's (and the subsequent model FJ) quickly became very popular with Hot Rodders. You can see pictures of others at the article below :
Sadly, you don't see very many on the roads any longer, but occasionally, on a nice weekend, you might come across one, like I did!
