Another spot from the NEC Classic Car Show at the weekend, this 1957 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer convertible certainly turned heads and took up some floor space. You don't really realise how big these 50s American cars were until you stand next to one.

It just says 1950s doesn't it? (My own photo)

The Dodge Custom Royal was produced in the United States from 1955 to 1959, with 'Custom Royal' being the top trim level of the Dodge line, above the mid level Dodge Royal and the base level Dodge Coronet. Two door and four door hardtops, along with the convertible, were referred to as Custom Royal Lancers.

It even has a small record player in the dash board. No auto change with this system, though there may be plently of track skipping!

Are you a fan of these big American 1950s classics? They are certainly eyecatching and this one was getting a lot of interest, the owner told me he believed it was the only example of this particular type in the UK. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

    • Awesome! ‘50s space age styling and the bigger the better. But we in America had room for such behemoths in those days, and Gas was about 20 cents a gallon!

    • They're so amazing. To think that's what people had as their car.
