1965 Olds 4-4-2 "Cannibal"
Dealer-prepped Olds rises from obscurity.
Was scrolling through an Olds forum and caught wind of this Craigslist ad featuring an Olds 4-4-2 "Cannibal." I was skeptical since there's so many people trying to hype their particular vehicles with half-truths, but a little sleuthing set me straight on this one.
Here's how the ad reads: Numbers matching classic muscle car 400ci automatic ac not working power steering power brakes. Runs and drives great Has dings and dents but very little rust Many extra parts included. Found in a Nebraska barn. This car was sold by Brace Olds in Kansas City Mo. and was a dealer special called a Cannibal that ate Fords and Chevys with upgrades and positraction rear. Google 442 Cannibal for complete story.
According to this Oldsmobile dealer newsletter, Brace Oldsmobile in Kansas City, MO promoted the 4-4-2 by advertising it as a vehicle that "chews up" other performance cars like the GTO. The dealership fashioned pot metal badges to distinguish their "Cannibal" from other 4-4-2s.
From all appearances, it's just a 4-4-2 with a distinctive dealer badge – nothing special other than a historical footnote. Anyone know anything more about 'em?
