1988 Ferrari 328 GTS
Photographed in November 2018 at Richmonds, South Australia
Based on the very successful and much-loved 308, the Ferrari 328 gained some small body modifications and engine improvements included an increased displacement of 3.2 Litres.
The very willing V8 is mounted transversely at the rear of the car, on top of the rear axle. The 5-speed gearbox is integrated into the engine.
7,400 328's were built between 1985 and 1989, at which time the model was replaced by the larger 348, with a completely new chassis and engine configuration.
The GTS signifies "Gran Turismo Spider" for the Targa Top. There was no "real" convertible offered.
The 328 refers to the engine capacity (3.2 Litres) and the number of cylinders (8). This method of identification is completely different from the V12 cars!
The production of GTS cars outnumbered the GTB Hardtop model by almost 5 to 1 - Only 1344 GTB's were built.
Like the later (Quattrovolve) versions of the 308, the 3.2 Litre V8 featured 4 valves per cylinder and produced 270 hp (201kW). Top speed is 166 mph (267km/h) amd 0-60 mph time is 5.5 seconds, 0-100mph being 13.0 seconds.
