2005 Subaru WRX STi WRC........Papercraft!!!

For those of you not familiar with the art of Papercraft.....I give you my Papercraft Subaru WRX STI WRC Rally car:

Sorry this isn't exactly diecast but I think/ hope everyone will still enjoy this post:

I built this from a free kit I downloaded on-line about 14 years ago. Transparencies were used for the windows and light lenses. I remember, when making the intercooler I wrapped the fins around a toothpick so I wouldn’t crease the paper so you can still read the ‘STi’ on it.

The only modification I did was to make the front wheels steerable. No idea why the wheels are yellow and not gold.....

Some of you that know me may think it's odd I built a Subaru model. Truth is, before I owned a '57 Chevy I had a 2004 WRX STi, blue with gold wheels!!! And YES of course I still miss it!!

  • Curious: can one create an R/C papercraft car? The internals and wheels are from some cheap off-the-shelf kit, but the body-shell is paper. Asking around on Reddit, they say it might work if built robustly enough. But is it doable? And who would be brave enough to try that?

    • Yeah it would be totally possible. The body on an R/C car is not structural at all. On hobby grade cars it's made out of vacuum formed Lexan. But, I wouldn't really call it legit, it's like that Youtube video on R/C'ing the LEGO Bugatti model....
