2017 RUF CTR.
To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Yellowbird, RUF have launched something rather special.
The crappy quality film on YouTube showing the awesome RUF Yellowbird sliding (mostly sideways) around the Nordschleife is the stuff of legend. Just look below if you haven't seen it. This car was very special, and RUF have decided to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of this car with a very special car indeed.
Step forward the 2017 RUF CTR. Yes, this looks like the original in 964 guise - except you may be surprised to hear that there is not a single Porsche part in this car. Not one. The chassis, for example is a world first for a rear engined road car - a carbon monocoque.
The engine is a 3.6 litre flat-six, twin-turbocharged - and making 700 horsepower and 880Nm of torque. It is rear-drive only and exclusively uses a six-speed manual transmission. Its performance is suitably impressive... it takes 3.5 seconds for the CTR to reach 62 mph, and 9 seconds to hit 125 mph. Nine seconds! Its top speed is 225+ mph. Handling is provided by double-wishbone control arms actuating pushrod shock absorbers. The front brakes are six-piston fixed calipers; the rear are four-piston units.
If you thought getting a 911R was difficult, this will be considerably rarer - just 30 are being made. And we don't know the cost, but shedding a kidney on eBay isn't going to be sufficient. We see the car on Friday and really can't wait. More pics then. In the meantime, enjoy the original Yellowbird video below.
