2018 Chevy Traverse Premier

The all new 2018 traverse makes a great case for the family suv

The Facts:

Base Price $48,345

Engine: 3.6L V-6

Horsepower: 310 hp @ 6800 rpm

Torque: 266 lb-ft @ 2800 rpm

Transmission: 9-speed automatic with manual shifting mode

Curb Weight: 4680 lb

0-60: 6.5 sec

MPG: 17 City / 25 Highway

Incredible New 9-Speed:

I’m extremely picky when it comes to transmissions. They must deliver smooth, quick shifts, and be properly programmed with the engine. Whether you're just cruising or pushing a vehicle to its max, a proper transmission will always deliver a quick and crisp shift. A lot of new cars are coming out with 8, 9 and even 10 speed transmissions. However, most haven’t put enough time and effort into development. Harsh shifts or consistent gear hunting are common issues. Thankfully Chevy invested in a very solid 9-speed which I found to be well made and perfectly tuned with the engine. The shifts were consistently quick and the gearing was well programmed.

Impressive New Exterior Design:

Large SUVs aren’t known for their sleek design or exciting styling. The 2018 Traverse soars past expectations with sleek sweeping lines and a very attractive rear end design. I particularly like the LED lighting placement on back. It definitively sets itself a cut above the average family hauler. The front has also been treated to a mammoth grill, LED accent lights and full LED headlights which have a distinctive design. All things considered, the 2018 Traverse is one of the best looking vehicles in the segment.

Space For The Whole Family:

The Traverse is extremely roomy and has class leading cargo space boasting 98.2 cubic feet. As expected, the seating is set up with two captain’s chairs in the middle row and a three seater bench in the very back. An option for larger families is a middle bench that brings the maximum seating capacity to 8 people.

Comfortable and Functional Interior:

I enjoyed the heated and cooled leather seats, having proved to be very comfortable and supportive over the long trips I drove. The interior design is also welcoming with a sweeping leather front dash and metal accents. You will notice tons of cubby holes and storage spaces inside which remind you that you’re in a family hauler, for better or for worse.

The Standard Tech:

As with nearly every new vehicle hitting the road, we have blind spot detection, laser guided cruise control, and a standard backup camera with a 360-degree overhead view as well (perhaps less common.) I found all of these systems to work very well, especially the smooth accelerations and decelerations provided by the laser guided cruise control.

Why 2018 Traverse:

The 2018 Chevy Traverse is a well-executed design which offers pretty much everything a prospective family could want. Seating for up to 8, best-in-class cargo room, a stylish exterior, and an efficient, yet powerful, engine with an incredible 9-speed transmission makes for a unique choice. The 2018 Traverse sits atop a peak others manufacturers may find tough to climb.
