2019 Genesis G90 Review

Does The G90 Have What It Takes To Tango With The Titans of The Ultra Lux Sedan Segment?

2019 Genesis G90 Review - By: Kyle Edward

Exterior Styling Which Makes a Glamorous Splash:

First impressions are everything and the G90 aims to make a good one. At first glance, you'll notice extra long rear doors, a wide hood, sharp LED lights, a tall grill, spiffy wheels, and gorgeous nearly sparkling LED taillights. With those characteristics, you can instantly recognize the G90 as an expensive luxury sedan.

Highly Refined Interior Surprises Everyone:

Consumers shopping in this segment are very picky and demanding. Only the best will do and nothing less. With the brand being new and having little to no status, the designers and engineers knew they only had one shot to make a lasting impression. Thankfully they really knocked it out of the park. Fine full-grain real wood trim, tight leather-wrapped door panels, Nappa leather seats, and a black suede ceiling covering give the G90 a truly luxurious aesthetic. People often thought they were riding in a Mercedes or even a Bentley. Having personally driven and ridden in both I can honestly say the G90 isn't far off at all.

Two Potent Engine Options Available + AWD or RWD:

First up we have a 3.3L Twin-Turbocharged V-6 which cranks out 365 HP @ 6,000 rpm and 376 lb-ft @ 1,300 rpm, a very potent and exciting engine choice. If you want more horsepower then you can option the good-old fashion V-8, creating 420 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 383 lb-ft @ 5,000 rpm a vibrant choice for those who like to hit triple digits quickly. I've driven both and I'm torn between the two. On one hand, the Twin-Turbo feels light on its feet and having all of that low-end torque is great for smooth lower speed passing. However, the V-8 simply feels like it belongs in the G90 plus all of that horsepower creates effortless highway acceleration.

A Great Choice If People Only Knew:

The G90 is a legitimately good luxury sedan which features everything a buyer could want. It's functional with AWD or RWD, fun to drive with two excellent powertrain choices features a high-quality Audi like interior and looks the part too with a wide sweeping body design. However, people still don't even really know what the Genesis brand represents which is a problem they're trying to solve. With the introduction of the sporty G70 sedan, people are slowing catching on. The Genesis brand is a long-term bet for sure. If they continue to make stylish high-quality products, I'm sure it will be a success.
