2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD makes surprise appearance
The new for 2020 Chevrolet Silverado showed its face to the world, while revealing some significant technical improvements compared to the old model.
It started with a little teaser of the hood profile in early April (see picture below), but now Chevrolet has released the 2020 Silverado Heady Duty with its new 10-speed Allison transmission, a brand-new petrol V8 and lots of new body panels, resulting in a rather different look.
“We set out to make a statement with the 2020 Silverado HD and wanted to visually capture the power and capability of the truck,” according to the Silverado HD lead exterior designer Brian Izard. The new design shows a number of similarities with the Silverado 1500 released earlier this year, but the overall look is more rugged and could even be described as industrial.
The standard engine for the Silverado HD will be an all-new gasoline V-8 with direct injection coupled to a six-speed automatic, while an improved version of the L5P 6.6L Duramax turbodiesel V-8 remains an option, bolted to a new 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. Chevrolet has not released any numbers yet, but they mentioned the V-8 diesel cranks out 910 lb-ft of torque. It is only a matter of time before one of The Big Three will crack the four-number barrier…
The 2020 Silverado HD goes on sale in mid-2019, at about the same time Ram starts delivering the 2020 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty models, to be released at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, in January next year.
