2020 Lexus LX 570 review: is it a $100,000 bargain?
You know I didn't have much hope for this review video when my colleague Hansen took delivery of our 1-week loan. For those that don't know, press fleet management companies usually give media outlets here in the US loans for about 1-week unless previously negotiated, so we can get acclimated to the vehicle before giving a final verdict. It's not a tremendous amount of time but it's enough to form a decent opinion in order to inform the general consumer, and more than any 30-minute test drive ever could.
The Lexus LX 570 is, at its core, a Toyota Land Cruiser adorned with black-tie formal wear. With that in mind, and the fact that this car doesn't sell all that well, I didn't think this video stood a chance of getting more than 1000-2000 overall views within the first half a year of publishing. And yet as of this writing here we are, staring directly at over 18,000 views.
And this mimics Hansen's initial thoughts on the SUV overall as well. When he first received the LX, he hated it. But as he drove it more, it made more sense and if used in the right way (ie, a luxury off-roader perfect for 'glamping') it makes a lot of sense. That's an incredibly small market, but it's there. The views on this video alone from a small side-project automotive outlet we started many years ago and not that many people know about, should speak volumes that people do care about the LX 570.
In a world of hyperniching (see: BMW X4 and X6), the LX 570 makes sense. Is it a $100,000 bargain? No. But in 3 years off a lease, this thing will be a HUGE bargain.
