2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA Spied Testing on Road and Track
Arriving in the US Next Year.
When Mercedes announced that the new A-Class sedan coming to North America in 2019, many people worried about losing the CLA-Class compact sedan which is at similar market position as the A-Class. However, that is not likely to happen.
From the spy shots, we can see the new CLA is slightly lower than current models. With the curve along the C-pillar from the roof all the way to the trunk, the car looks sharper and sportier. Although it does look like the new CLS, it gives a younger and more passionate feeling which is the design language of CLA. Always the icon of avantgarde, Mercedes CLA is only for people who are tired of family sedans or sport coupe.
The 2020 CLA shares the platform with the new A-Class. It will receive new front and rear lights from the new A-Class. The rest of the exterior will pretty much remain the same with some slight changes perhaps. We suppose there will be three different trims for the US market: CLA 250, CLA 35 AMG and CLA 45 AMG. The CLA 250 and CLA 35 AMG will probably share the same engine but CLA 35 AMG will definitely has higher power output. The CLA 45 AMG will get an upgrade version of M133 engine and it is expect to has over 400hp since the current RS3 has already had 400hp now. There might be a CLA 45s version considering there are rumors about the BMW M2 CS recently. The engines for CLA 35 and CLA 45 will involve EQ assistance for sure. 4matic all-wheel-drive system is expected to be standard. If the CLA 45 gets 4matic+ with the ability to put 100% power to the rear, that will be so much fun. In addition, there will be front grill from AMG GT R appears on the CLA 45 AMG. It is also going to have more agressive front and rear bumpers. Perhaps Mercedes will give it wider tires in order to fit with the upgrade performance.
We don't know anything about the interior yet, but it is expected to be similar as the interior of A-Class. The enlarged screen and infotainment system MBUX (Merdeces-Benz User Experience) will appear on the new CLA-Class. I wouldn't expect much from the overall material and quality because this is still an entry-level model even though it will be a little bit more expansive than the new A-Class.
So what do you think of the new CLA? I can't wait to see the new CLA 45 AMG considering the A-Class sedan will stop at 35 version. I guess there just can't be two 45 AMG sedans LOL.
