The World Car of the Year winners were announced today and Kia Motors Corp won two of the awards. The Kia Telluride was crowned the World Car of the Year while the Soul EV won the World Urban Car. The Kia Telluride, which took the coveted WCotY 2020 crown, was introduced in 2019 and was already a hot favorite among car lovers, as it has won more than 70 awards since its introduction last year. Among other awards, the Telluride has won the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year and MotorTrend SUV of the Year. The SUV's practicality and its unique design were some of the factors that put wind in its sails.
Kia Soul EV - 2020 World Urban Car of the Year
The Soul EV took home this award due to a number of factors that worked together in its favour - compact, spacious, a design that blended boxy and trendy, and most importantly, the range. The Kia Soul EV gives a range of 452km in a single charge as per the WLTP cycle. It has a choice of two battery packs - 64kWh or 39kWh.

Porsche Taycan - 2020 World Luxury Car & World Performance Car of the Year
Porsche's first ever fully electric series production car took the above mentioned two awards. This also marks Porsche's first ever win in the World Luxury Car category and it is a stylish way to win in this segment, that too the car in question being all-electric! In the in the performance category, this is the sixth win for the company. Previously, Porsche won in the World Performance Car category in 2017, 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2006.

Mazda3 - 2020 World Car Design of the Year
In 2016, the Mazda MX-5 won the World Car of the Year as well as the World Car Design of the Year. Fast forward to 2020, Mazda3 has taken the top honours in the World Car Design category. The Mazda3 is designed with the Kodo design philosophy, which follows the elegant, minimalist approach that highlights the beauty of space between objects. Powering this elegant car is the company's 2-litre SkyActiv-X petrol engine that develops 120bhp. Yes, this is ths same engine that features the path-breaking Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI). Essentially, it marries the concept of spark ignition and compression ignition to extract the maximum performance and fuel efficiency from the engine. The engine is paired with an auto or manual 'box, sending drive to the front wheels.

The 2020 edition of World Car Awards (WCA) marks the 15th year of the partnership with the New York International Auto Show. The test drives for the awards started in Los Angeles in November last year. The Auto Expo 2020 in New Delhi witnessed the World Car Finals event. The Top 10 and Top Five finalists in five World Car Awards categories were announced at that time. On march 3, top three cars from 5 categories were announced. Today the top winners were announced via digital media, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The jury comprised 86 top automotive journalists from 24 countries who selected and validated the cars, while auditing firm KPMG tabulated the jurors’ ballots.
