2021 BMW M3 and M4 leaked before launch event - are they going to be grilled?

What do you think of the them?

Hey guys, so I've just finished cleaning the grill on my BBQ...oh wait, sorry I am getting confused with my food blog and the brand new M3 and M4 grilles, I mean cars.

Anyway, images of the brand new 2021 M3 and M4 have slipped under the BMW radar and have made it out into the wild. As you can see from these images, the grille is quite a significant part of the styling but BMW are running with it. They feel no shame.

On top of that, you will notice some new swanky colours from them too. Namely, the green and bright yellow which actually looks rather good on an M car. The two new M cars also feature quad-tailpipes which appear larger than before.

The engine in the M3 and M4 is a trusty twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder, which is actually sourced from the X3 M and X4 M and will produce 473 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque in standard form. And then when BMW announces the competition versions, this engine will produce 503 hp and the same 442 lb-ft of torque.

The majority of new BMW M3 and M4 variants will come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and AWD. However, rear-wheel drive variants will be available, as will a six-speed manual transmission.

That's all we know so far, but just look at these photos....to grille or not to grille, that is the question.

  • There’s already a market for face lifting older cars or retrofitting a sportier grill. These new BMWs may be the first that people want to retro fit an older grill. 😂

    • I agree, I think we might see a few of the established suppliers of body styling parts quickly offering an alternative to these front ends. Needs to be done properly in order to not interfere with the required airflow, but I think it will...

  • I still don't see why the grill had to be that big, it simply doesn't look good.... Also I know there are so many things and regulations today, but this really looks like an exercise, as, how to reach all the passenger safety goals and aerodynamic efficiency goals and fuel consumption... and still keep the silly oversized grill on there.... No, it will never look good in my eyes

    • My understanding is that the styling is aimed at the Chinese preferences/taste, as that’s the big growth market. I think we’re seeing this in the styling and marketing strategies of a few manufacturers, but it seems most blatant with the...

  • Some of it looks like a Lexus, some of it looks like an Alfa. I like it better without all the chrome, but it still doesn't work for me

  • Needs some orthodontic work on that grill. Maybe it's time someone added some gold toofs to one.

  • Call me crazy, but with a number plate in the middle and those extra vents in the bumper, the grilles don't upset me as much as they did before. I'm unsure about the headlights though, they seem to be larger than they should.

    • It will always look better with dark color, this dark green is a fantastic paint. Looks a bit better, but... It's by far the ugliest BMW, ever.

    • That award still goes to the BMW X6
