2021 Dodge Challenger widebody 'widens' to more Hemi models

Dodge force-fed the Challenger a few more biscuits this Holiday to give us a full range of chunky love handles on the Hemi models.

The filter down of cool-trim options isn't limited to the 'M-divisions' or 'AMGing everything' in Germany. Dodge too saw the opportunity to cash in on customer's desires to own the crème de la crème - in this case with the widebody options. The widebody is no longer an exclusive trim on the Hellcat and Scat Pack models.

Is gold coming back? I've always hated gold cars. This looks more yellow than gold to me, so I'm a bit more warm to it. Image via Dodge.

The outlook for 2021 is getting better each day! Dodge will offer the widebody trim package with the Shaker optioned Scat Pack and the T/A 392 also getting their hips widened the 3.5" just like the Scat Pack (without Shaker), Hellcat, and Hellcat Redeye.

The blistered fenders of the widebody hide the 305mm rear tires with gargantuan 20x11 wheels. It isn't a package solely for looks - even if some buyers might be trying to play 'Scat Pack in a Hellcat costume'.

The Scat Pack Shaker widebody not only gives you the big hips but a shaking air intake on the hood. Rev the motor and see the duct through the hood rockin' and rolling! This is quite possibly the most fun way to stir up a can of paint in the morning while stirring the neighbors out of bed - a win-win situation. The Shaker hood is an option for the R/T, but sadly no widebody.

The widebody T/A 392 will be the wide version of the celebrated SCCA Trans-Am racers from the 1970s. The T/A will have unique graphics, and the roof, spoiler, and hood will be black. The blackness continues with a dark hole in the headlight for additional air - known as the 'Air Catcher' headlamps.

Get ready to plunk down some serious cash at your Dodge dealer. The cheapest widebody (with the Scat Pack Shaker) will set you back just under $50,000 USD.

    • The rear tires will get replaced three or four times before the fronts. Guaranteed.

  • Wide bodies are cool, but Challenger is a large car already. Not sure bigger is better in this case.

  • Don’t hate me, I don’t like the way the wide body looks. The whole charm for me with the challenger was the retro theme. Looks more true to the muscle car spirit in the original form. They will tuck a 295 and that gives you a decent tread patch.

    • No worries. We all have an opinion. While we’re on the topic of scrutiny; the Challenger is too big. The next one needs to be shrunk by 20%.

    • I don’t know. I went to a Corvette this time. It’s even wider. And much faster with less HP. The big dodge is a bit heavy. But, this sure gets it off the line hard. That is kinda what makes a muscle car. If you make it smaller you get something more...

  • Full transparency, I have grown to absolutely love these cars. After the last facelift, they nailed it. They're super aggressive and I'd love to own a 392 or above. Same with the Charger.

    • They’re more appealing now than they were over ten years ago. Even if it’s aging like a stinky cheese, I’d call that a win - I love me some strong, pungent cheeses.
