The redesigned Kia Sorento has made it to the U.S, and has more powertrain options. We currently know the powertrain and drivetrain specs, trim levels, and features that will be offered on the new Sorento.
Three new powertrain options are available for the 2021 model year, and some are surprisingly powerful. The base engine is a 2.5 L I-4 that produces 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque and works with an 8-speed automatic transmission to deliver all power to either the front or all wheels. An upgraded 2.5 L turbocharged I-4 that generates a staggering 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque is also available, and is hooked up to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to deliver all power to either the front or all wheels. The turbocharged 2.5 L can tow a healthy 3500 lbs.
In addition to both gas engines, a hybrid model joins the group. It's powered by a tiny 1.6 L turbocharged I-4 and an electric motor that combine to create 227 horsepower. Outstanding fuel economy is the key to success in the world of hybrids. The Sorento hybrid will do an EPA estimated 37 combined MPG, a figure that is 1 mpg higher than the rival Toyota Highlander hybrid.
2021 will bring a plug-in hybrid variant that will be powered by a 1.6 L GDI 4-cylinder turbo and an 8 kWh battery that combine to produce 261 horsepower. This power is delivered through a 6-speed automatic transmission to a standard all wheel drive system.
After hearing about the plug-in hybrid model, the immediate thought that comes to mind is regarding range. The Sorento Plug-in hybrid will do an estimated 30 miles of all-electric driving.
Trim levels available include LX, S, EX, SX, and SX-Prestige. An optional X-Line off-road oriented package will be optional, and offers standard all wheel drive, a 1-inch boost of ground clearance, and an assortment of rugged appearance items.

A third row of seats is standard on all trim levels, and allows for 7 passengers. 2 of these passengers will appreciate the optional second-row captains chairs, unfortunately, however, they reduce the seating capacity by one. Charging shouldn't be an issue, there's plenty to go around on all trims excluding the base LX (LX is fitted with 6), as long as eight is enough.
In addition to the mass amount of charging ports, the new Sorento is chock-full of technology, with an 8-inch infotainment display coming standard, and a 10.3-inch one optional. Also optional is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, additional connectivity features, a 360 degree camera, and various driver assistance features - maybe just don't buy that pool you were hoping for.
Pricing hasn't been released yet, but I expect it to drift near $30,000 for the base LX, and range to $44,000 for the top SX-Prestige trim.

I don't know about you, but I think the new Sorento looks sharp. The vast array of features, technology, and comfort items blow me away - maybe this is the next Kia best-seller.
