Lexus once again has a V8 to put in its IS sedan for the first time since 2014 to make the IS 500 F Sport Performance. This is the launch of the F Sport series for Lexus to complement F Performance series. That engine will produce 472 horsepower at 7100 RPM and 395 lb-ft of torque, more than enough to propel the car to 60 mph in under 4.5 seconds. Dual stacked rear exhausts give out that great sound.

Coupled with the 8-speed automatic, the only transmission on offer, Lexus estimates 24 mpg of fuel economy on average. Despite tipping the scales at 3,891 pounds, the nearly two-ton car has a variety has a variety of handling and suspension upgrades to keep performance up. That includes a Handling Kit with an adaptive suspension and limited-slip differential. There's also a performance rear damper from Yamaha.

Stopping the car are 14.0-inch front brakes and 12.7-inch rear brakes, up one inch from the outgoing IS 350 performance sedan. The included Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 adds on pedestrian detection, emergency steering assist, automatic high beams, and more.

The car gets a more aggressive look with a bulge on the hood. The fenders are also wider to fit 19-inch Enkei 10-spoke wheels. Inside gets more luxurious and sporty as well, with F Sport badges throughout. A heated steering wheel is standard equipment in addition to separate pedals for the car.

Pricing and final details will be announced closer to its launch this fall.

  • Looks very nice, but why not just call it the ISF.....? The ethos is confusing me slightly

    • probably doesn't have the same suspension or beefed up drivetrain components from one. And to keep costs down/save room for a real halo

    • Because if they call it the IS-f, there are higher expectations?

  • I think this is FANTASTIC news. Think if an IS500 is the same price as an optioned-out BMW M340i. The choice between that or an angry loud V8 IS with tons of character would be enormously easy to make
