- Lewis Hamilton celebrates pole position at 2019 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

So, my first bold prediction for the 2020 Formula One season is that Ferrari will win at least one of the two championships on offer. Over the past three years since the new regs came into play Ferrari have been terribly unlucky with hopeless unreliability, quite a lot of driver errors and wind tunnel problems which arguably have cost the Italians at least one world championship.

Heres why I think Ferrari will finally come out on top in 2020. Well they have two quality drivers in Sebastian Vettel and young gun Charles Leclerc. Leclerc has now had a year of bedding in at Ferrari and I think its fair to say the Monegasque out shone Vettel in 2019. The 2017 Formula Two champion picked up two victories in Spa and Monza in what probably was the most incredible week of the young mans life and a stunning seven pole positions compared with Vettels one win and measly two pole positions. The Germans lofty standards. With the said Vettel did seem to rediscover a bit of form towards the end of the season and you should never count him out.

The SF90 was also blisteringly quick, shown by the nine pole positions it racked up over 21 races however it was terribly inconsistent and lacked downforce especially in the first half of the season. The problem came down to a wind tunnel correlation issue, the result of that being a car which was a rocketship in a straight line but unpredictable in the corners.

Ferrari can't keep on being unlucky four years in a row can they?

My second bold prediction for the F1 2020 season is that Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas will finally topple the supreme 6 time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Bottas joined mercedes in 2017 after the retirement of world champion Nico Rosberg and since that moment Hamilton has comfortably beaten his Finnish teammate over three seasons however Mercedes effective number two driver has shown flashes of brilliance over the last three years such as his maiden win in Russia, soaking up huge pressure from Vettel and a couple of stunning pole positions to go with that too.

This could be Bottas' year to beat his famous team mate because he improved tremendously in 2019 taking 4 victories including a dominant drive in the season opener in Australia. Beating Hamilton by 20 seconds and taking all 26 points. He certainly had Hamiton rattled during the first four races but the Finn showed inconsistency and Hamilton romped away towards yet another Championship. Bottas just needs to display his huge speed and talent over the course of 22 races.

My third and final bold prediction for the 2020 Formula one season is McLaren to get at least one podium. The Woking based outfit have improved massively in 2019 after a complete restructure in mangement and a whole new driver line up with Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz replacing Stoffel Vandoorne and Fernando Alonso. In 2019 McLaren ended up a comfortable fourth in the championship ahead of Renault who supply engines to McLaren. A stellar year was capped off in Brazil when Carlos Sainz took advantage of a topsy turvy race in Interlagos to end up with third place and Mclarens first podium since Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen finished second and third in Australia 2014.

I fancy Mclaren to easily be best of the rest in 2020 before ditching Renault power units and switching to Mercedes for 2021. Plus there young driver line up has some serious talent in Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz.
