3 of the coolest safety cars you didn't know about
Safety car drivers get to drive some of the coolest cars on Earth
In motorsport, we have seen some very exotic cars. From the Mercedes AMG GT in F1, to the Corvette in Daytona, safety car drivers get to drive some of the coolest cars on Earth. But there have been even cooler safety cars in motorsport history.
Renault Clio 16v
Back in 1995 at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, the Clio 16V was a safety car. So not only was the Clio 16V inspired by an F1 car, it also had a part to play in Formula 1 races.
Only avid motorsport fans will remember that the Porsche 914 was once used as a safety car. The 1973 Canadian Grand Prix is knows for the controversy cause by the Porsche. After Jody Scheckter and Francois Cevert's crash, the 914 was deployed but it came out in front of the wrong car which allowed several of the leaders to gain a lap on their rivals.
The Countach has to be probably the coolest safety car of all time. In the 1983 Monaco Grand Prix, the Lambo was used as a safety car though it was difficult to wave the flag from the teeny-meeny window of the Italian supercar. But then who cares about all this stull when you are in a Countach, right?
