3 Things That Irk Me in the Automotive Community
I love the car community, but sometimes the car community can be annoying
The automotive community is a very unique community. We all have our different tastes in cars, and style. We also have our funny jokes and stereotypes. It's great but there are things about this great community of people that irk me quite a bit and we may all be guilty of some, if not all of these things.
1.) Calling Good, Popular Cars, "Overrated"
This one I've never understood. Some of the world's most popular good cars get called "overrated". Cars like the much beloved Nissan GT-R get called overrated, yet I don't see how it's overrated since everyone I've come across has knows it's a good car. Sure it's aging now as it hasn't been changed much over the course of 13 years of production, but it's still a very capable car with plenty of potential and can be used for many purposes that other non-overrated cars like an Audi R8 can't. The biggest overrated cars are the cars that haven't even come out yet (Cough... new Tesla Roadster.... Cough).
2.) Blasting Good Cars For Ironic or the Wrong Reasons
Ok so this one is very similar to calling popular cars overrated. This one has more to do with successors (both literal and spiritual) to particular vehicles. Their predecessors get all the praise whilst the new one gets absolutely dogged on for reasons that their predecessor were guilty of. Let's take the BRZ/86 for example. It is one thing criticizing Toyota for not actually building the car themselves, but it's not the biggest criticism I hear. The BRZ/86 is undeservingly criticized for being underpowered and slow, yet they praise the AE86 despite it being a driver's car like the BRZ/86 and it's... you guessed it, underpowered and slow. It's worse than the new car with the most basic version of the car only getting 79hp. Here's my unpopular opinion... The AE86 is worse and also a lot uglier than its successor. I prefer the current 86 over it. Fight me.
Rocket Bunny Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ which looks 1000x better than any AE86 ever could.
3.) The "You probably can't afford it/You've probably never driven it" Guy
Oooooh how I can't stand this one.... someone comments about something they dislike about a particular car and some wise guy responds with, "Funny how most people commenting probably haven't driven one, and/or can't afford it." I'm sorry Smart-Alek, but unless you're Jeremy Clarkson, James May, or Richard Hammond, I seriously doubt you have driven the said car(s) or can afford them yourself. Cars are expensive and many are out of our price range, and we average car enthusiasts don't have the opportunity to drive them. We as car enthusiasts love cars and want to voice our opinion and we always see ourselves as being "in the market" for a new car wether we are or not, because we can never have or want too many cars. Please don't be this guy, because nobody likes them in the community, and if you are that person, do us all a favor. Just stop.

One thing that really irks me is when someone finds out about some rare or old car and thinks they must be the only who has ever discovered it- then they write an article saying
“______ car you’ve never heard of”
That’s why I avoid that. I say “____ car you’ve probably never heard of” or “forgotten about” knowing full well I’m not the only person who knows about it but I’m one of the few and to jog some people’s memories.
YES I HATE THAT
You have a popular opinion that seems overrated.bit ironic really as its a good article💪😆
Thanks for reading! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Which opinion is overrated though?
"Irk", I adore that word. 🤪
Three bothers me a lot, but I think one is bit wrong, because whether a car is overrated or not comes down to ones personal viewing of the car based on multiple factors like price, performance etc. So no.1 appears to me to be u being bothered by somone else's judgement. Obviously u dont like wat theyre saying because it goes against wat u said urself, either that Ive interpreted it wrong idk. But as far as Im concerned, there will always be ppl for both sides of the overrated/underrated argument for probably every car, and we will just accept it, or consider them jealous if thats ur way😆.
No I mean what I said. I don’t think good, popular cars are overrated. They are popular for several legitimate reasons. I also think the term, “overrated” is horribly overused to the point that I feel it’s lost it’s meaning and used for a...
Read moreI can agree with that. These days reviewers talk about cars being under rated or overrated but it is the end consumer who decides whether he loves it or hates it. These people are just to tell about the features and opinions about the cars not...
Read moreI tire of braggadocios flinging obscures nomenclature to prove how knowledgeable they are. “The E39 is nothing like my E42. I’ve never become a fan or bought a car with such complex labeling. So how long is your nomenclature?
Well when a car has multiple generations with the same name, like the 5 series, 911, Range Rover or Skyline, then a code name helps quickly identify which one you’re talking about.
Like if someone told me “I have a Range Rover” then I...
Read moreThis is mostly true, but that distinction used to follow the year a car was produced or its generation, like a 1969 Corvette is just that, and the fact that it is known also as a C3 doesn’t require naming it as such.
