Its now early June 2016...so by this time, i like to think of myself as "well known" to the David Boatwright Partnership, rather than the pest that i actually was. I was finally ready to put down my deposit and secure the car of my dreams. The last thing to choose was the colour. Being the shy and retiring type, i had originally desired Sublime, a 'heritage colour' as Dodge call it, from the '70's, its the kind of day-glow green that means you never need headlights, but to my dismay that colour had been a limited run in the 2015 Challengers, and no longer available, my options were more limited. They had however some other colours which indeed were beautiful, but as with everything its difficult to really choose unless you could see it in the flesh and unfortunately that wasn't likely to happen unless i could get myself to a dealership in North America.

Challenger in B5 Blue

The fervour surrounding the In/Out "Brexit" referendum appeared not to be having a detrimental effect on the currency exchange, which, if it did, could have a knock on affect to my final price.

Finally i settled on another heritage colour, B5 Blue, but having been pre warned by Toni-Anne at Boatwright that a Brexit Vote could significantly change the exchange rates she suggested i chose a backup colour, just in case we ran into the same problem as my original Sublime choice, that way, the contacts 'across the pond' could respond quicker without having to re contact me. Great thinking..... so i went for B5 blue followed by Plum Crazy (again a lovely subtle number)

Challenger in Plum Crazy

After all that hard work (choosing the colour) i found myself on a little holiday, rewarding myself for all the terribly hard work i'd put in, whereas truth be told it was all down to Toni and Richard, but finally my dream was going to become a reality. In my head the 12-14 weeks was going to fly by without any hitches.

Sisteron in France

Hitch 1. Phone call (i missed it, because i was too busy gawping at scenery like this) followed by an email from Toni-Anne, the gist of which was "Sorry to be the bearer of bad news" Dodge have withdrawn both B5 Blue and Plum Crazy. Shall we say, I was somewhat dismayed. Not Toni-Annes fault at all, I don't think i swore. Hmmmm? Anyhow, after returning to my hotel and calming down enough to log onto the Dodge website i finally chose a colour that they must have, as it had only just been released. GoMango a kind of orangey, reddy gold colour, to be honest i couldn't fathom what it was, it was so new Dodge only really had 2 pictures of it and they both looked completely different. Rang Toni-Anne back gave her my new colour and bingo we were away..

Hitch 2. BREXIT. As someone who has never got more than 3 numbers on the lottery, since its inception, i can confidently say i could have guessed the outcome of the referendum better than these highly paid experts. Needless to say the vote happened and the exchange rate plummeted, because no one had predicted the outcome! Muggins here had decided to purchase an American car (well Canadian, if we are strict, as they all built in Brampton, Ontario). Again, out of Boatwrights hands, the plummeting pound meant my hunk of muscle car just got a tad more expensive by about £2K. After another frantic phone call from me we came to a deal which suited both of us, the final payment would be due on delivery.

Challengers at Brooklands

With many summer weeks to kill before my car arrived i busied myself going to shows to pick Challenger Owners brains, and what a lovely group of people they are, helpful, knowledgeable and good fun. Mike R put me in touch with the UK Challenger Facebook Group and from that further events were attended.

My first glimpse on collection day

I'd like to say the weeks flew by, but they didn't. I finally got a message from Toni-Anne that my car was shipping and she gave me the shipping details so i could track the car in its container. Sadly i did this all to often, a bit like the kids with NORAD at Christmas.

Finally the car arrived on the last week in September, and after various little extras were fitted and the IVA test performed, she was finally ready to be picked up on the 10th October

2016 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker (Go Mango)

A huge thank you to Richard and Toni-Anne at DBP for making this whole process as painless as possible. I'm sure its possible to attempt this Car purchase and import yourself and i have indeed met several people who have done this. The savings i may have made by doing all this myself just were not worth it, the help and support, both pre and post sales, from the David Boatwright Partnership are in my mind worth every penny

  • Great story. I have a 2016 Scat Pack and it's the most fun car I have owned. I ordered if from Dodge as they didn't have any in Oregon of the color and options combination that I desired. So I had to wait 3 months for it to arrive at my dealership.
