4 Mustang Mach-E features you may have missed

It’s been a mad few months in the car world. The internet’s been set ablaze by Ford’s new all-electric Mustang Mach-E – Elon Musk’s Cybertruck has left us all confused and Audi’s given us the RSQ8, an SUV that holds a Nurburgring lap record. Now the hype has died down, it’s time to take a look back at the Mustang Mach-E.
I spent some time prodding and poking a pre-production prototype of the Mustang Mach-E at an event in Oslo the day after the unveiling – and there were a few details that have been a bit overlooked in all the internet chat. Here are five of the things I spotted that you may have missed.
The keyless-entry keypad
A fair bit’s been made of the Mustang’s digital keypad, situated on the driver’s door B-pillar. It glows red when activated, and is designed to let you get into the car if you’ve forgotten your key, or if your phone is being used as the key but the battery died. Don’t think it’s an ugly big keyboard style numpad either – it’s a small strip of red illuminated numbers, and it likely only appears when needed.
The world of popular home cinema kit has really started to move away from the wiring hell that is a 5.1 surround-sound system and towards more convenient soundbars – and that’s sort of what Ford has done with the Mustang Mach-E’s sound system. The B&O sound system runs across the width of the dashboard – you get a wide swathe of cool cloth which should also cut down reflections of the dash in the windscreen as well as pumping out your tunes.
Patented adjustable load floor
This is a cool bit of design that you might miss at first – the load cover (or parcel shelf for all you Europeans), is attached to the hatchback lid, so it keeps out of your way when you open the Mustang Mach-E’s trunk. It’s deceptively simple, but Ford’s managed to get a patent for the mechanism, and it’s flexible too, so you can make maximum use of the trunk space.
The tail lights aren’t always red
You’ll have to take our word for this one because in nearly all the photos of the Mustang Mach-E on the internet, the car’s turned on. But we’ve seen the Mustang Mach-E powered down, and the classic Mustang tri-bar tail lights are actually coloured white when the power is not on. Obviously, they glow red when you’re powered up, but the car looks surprisingly different when it’s off.
