5 Cars That Don’t Deserve a “Sport” Edition
With manufactures making sporty models of their everyday average hatchbacks and seeing great sales in the hot hatch market, It seems as though the design teams have been given a little too much leeway to splash some performance on some cars, hoping to provoke a reaction and a spark in sales by whacking to shiny new R.S./ST/R/GTI badge on the back.
So here’s a list of cars that are undeserving (in my opinion) of their sporty twist
1. Nissan Juke Nismo
What the hell were they thinking? I don’t even know what else to say. Yes you can say its rapid and qwerky or you could say its ugly as an ugly thing and looks like it could fall over at the sight of a lazy bend. And don’t even get me started on them using the holy name of Nismo on this lump.
2. Ford Edge ST
If you told me Ford were developing a V6 with 300 odd Bhp I would have giggled like a school girl thinking about an insane Fiesta or an even more insane Focus RS or even maybe a whole new sports car like an infant GT. But no they stuck the thing into the Edge. All I can say is thank the baby Jesus its not for sale on the shores of the UK.
3. Range Rover Sport
Yes im expecting a lot of you to stop reading at this point because this after all is the epitome of fast, powerful luxury and a few of you probably own or aspire to own one. But I digress; this is still a big rollie, heavy posh off roader. Not some low corner hugging track time machine. When first conceiving the Range Rover I don’t think they would have thought one day it would have 550Bhp and sound like a panther had been caged in the exhaust.
4. Vauxhall Zafira
Now, I’m down for a fast family wagon in the form of any sort of estate or anything with 5 doors, but when you start putting any sort of power into what I can only describe as a woeful mobile child prison then im out. Someone needs sacking.
5. VW Lupo Gti
This one doesn’t rub me up the wrong way as much as the rest but I definitely don’t see the point when we have a Polo and Golf Gti. Having a little nippy car is all good fun like the abarth 595 and the Suzuki Swift sport but in this case it feels like they’ve made the car because they didn’t have much left to do at the end of the week, so it ends up looking plain with only just enough power to move out of its own way.
