5 cars that Ridicule the Tesla roadster in range
today with autonomous cars and electric cars I have to say that in the evergrowing world of cars the gasoline cars are apparently being left behind, fans of electric cars insist with all of their will that we throw away the combustion cars in the trash and embrace the " clean" electric future with infinite ranges and zero emissions but... is it really the end of gasoline cars? Well ... why don`t make an unfair comparison with a hypercar against ordinary gasoline cars and see how they fare against the future flagship car of electric hypercars?
The tesla roadster has a range of 621 miles, a 0-60 in just 1.9 seconds, has 4 seats and an Ipad on the dashboard, but it doesn`t have a spare tire or a spacious trunk in which to fit your groceries, I have to say that although impractical the Tesla roadster is a pretty impressive car when it comes to figures but... that`s the way things are with fictional cars, fictional performance that never has been proven unless Tesla somehow Makes money out of the "defective 3"
The autonomy of the Tesla Roadster is 621 miles, in kilometers that translates to 999,403 kilometers, a pretty impressive range considering that it has a power per wheel of 10.00nm (not specified) and it`s also all wheel drive hoewer... is there any car that can beat that autonomy?
Starting in the 1.600-kilometer range (1052,603 miles for the English / US metric system) the Mercedes E-Class easily leaves behind the Tesla Roadster when it comes to autonomy,/range terms although its two-liter diesel engine with 150 horsepower available with the automatic change in the a200d version of the Mercedes class E model makes trees cry as it drives by and poisons rivers spewing smoke from the exhaust pipe the Efficient 6 cylinder engine consumes 3.9 liters every 100 kilometers with only 66 liters of capacity on the gas tank! prices for it start on the 50k range... considerably cheaper than the new roadster scratching the 210k mark.
going into a longer range variety we can find cars like the citroen C5 HDI of 2017 although its exterior design is a bit disgusting compared to the previously mentioned mercedes E class and packing 2 less cylinders than the Mercedes the small 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine of the C5 citroen only sips 4 liters every 100 kilometers driven, packing 71 liters of capacity on the tank this makes the Citroen C5 go into the range of 1.775 kilometers which is aproximately 1102,934 miles... maybe the Roadster would easily outrun the Citroen but then we would drive past them slowly, at the charging station as they wait half an hour to charge...
If we get serious and move a little further in our efficiency challenge we can find cars like the Volkswagen passat (recently disowned by the drivers by the the Volkswagen Emission scandal)
although it only equips 120 horsepower in a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine the 1.6-liter diesel engine with a tank with a capacity of 66 liters the small 1.6 engine is not as thirsty as the 4 motors on the Tesla roadster giving the car an autonomy of 1784 kilometer which is... 1108,526 miles, this model can be found in sedan or wagon version from starting on the 28k€ range
When it comes to safety there is no brand of cars that is capable of competing with Volvo, and recently in efficiency the Volvo V40 spits on the roadster when it comes to talk about range. packing 62 liters of capacity on the tank the Volvo v40 can run for 1.824 kilometers (1133,381 miles) with a 2.0 liter engine with 120hp consuming only 3.4 liters every 100 kilometers, maybe is not fast as the roadster or agile like it but it`s certainly tougher when it comes to safety and efficiency, this model can be found on stock begining on the 25k €mark
finally we get to the car that takes the "E" for efficiency. and it comes from france, Packing a 1.6 liter engine and only 120 horses under the hood using diesel as fuel the Peugeot 508 can travel nonstop more than 1.846 kilometers (1147,051 miles) with a capacity of 72 liters on the tank consuming only 3.9 liters every 100 kilometers, in terms of contenders this car is the cheapest and most efficient of all 5 shown, definitely something that hurts to know when you boast of having the most efficient hypercar in the world.
Do you think this comparison has been unfair for the Roadster? Do you prefer to charge batteries 30 minutes instead of refueling in 5 minutes? leave a comment below and remember to hit that bump button if you enjoyed this blog post!
