5. Tesla Roadster.

Well known for its review on top gear, this unusual electric sports car shared its underpinnings with the Lotus Elise. And, surprisingly had rather awful handling. This car sold poorly and was on sale for 1 year to make way for the Model S. So, Mr Elon has rather a lot to thank Lotus for. And I'm not sure many of us wished Tesla had started at all.

4. Vauxhall VX220

This unusual vehicle was a lightweight Vauxhall sports coupe with poor build quality but a brilliant driving experience. It was a very poorly selling vehicle, one that, surprisingly, according to reviews was "good for most days that never happen".

3. Dodge Circuit

This electric dodge had a range of 150-200 miles on a charge, relatively good for its time and borrowed the Elise's underpinnings and Europa's body. A very unusual combination for a car that never went on sale.

2. Rinspeed sQuba

A Lotus based swiss submarine style sports car. Not something you hear everyday, and not something you're likely to ever see, since they made and sold one, costing $1.5 million.

1. Hennessey Venom

This incredible vehicle surprisingly had the same chassis as the Elise, but, had a monstrous 7.0 V8 shoved into the stretched chassis, and became one of the most amazing machines to drive.

  • I think it you have a typo in your title, chassis not chassic? I'm pretty sure that Elon didn't have anything to do with, or very little to do with Tesla when the roadster was produced. Apart from those 2 things brilliant article. I really like the Dodge Circuit, I wish they produced it, it is a very cool concept.

  • I like the Vauxhall VX220, and Hennessy Venom. The Venom is especially amazing, as I live near the Hennessy factory and actually seen 2 of them! One of the fastest production cars ever made and to think it shares its chassis with a small British sports car meant to handle only around 200hp
