Owning a car that is 200 miles per hour is a pretty useless thing other than having a willy waving contest. But what are the cheapest options in achieving those numbers?

bmw m5 (e60)

The E60 M5 is first on our list. Boasting 507 horsepower from a massive 5 litre V10 engine, the M5 is a sure way to get to 200 miles per hour. As standard it comes with a 155 miles per hour limiter but with that removed it's good for 205 given a long enough road. High mileage cars can be picked up for as little as £12,000 but be ready for some expensive bills ahead.

mercedes sl55 amg

For around the same price as the M5, we have the SL55 AMG. Arguable one of the best looking convertibles made, the SL houses a supercharged 5.5 litre V8 producing 476 horsepower. Just like the M5, the SL is also electronically limited to 155 but once the restriction has been removed Mercedes claim it can achieve 208 miles per hour.

audi rs6 (c6)

Sticking with the German theme we have the Audi RS6. Unlike the C7 variant, the C6 offers a twin-turbo V10 produces almost 600 horsepower making it one of the most powerful road-going cars Audi have made. Once again, a 155 mph limiter is there but once removed the C6 can surpass 200 miles per hour. A little more expensive than the first two options with prices starting at around £20,000 but still a lot cheaper than modern alternatives.

chevrolet corvette zo6 (c6)

Moving on from the Germans, we have the Corvette. The C6 can be picked up in the UK for around £25,000 which gets you a LS7 V8 pushing out 505 horsepower to the rear wheels. Given enough room the ZO6 can just about pass the 200 miles per hour barrier.

bentley continental gt speed

The last on our list is a big jump from the others with a price tag of around £45,000 but for that you get a huge 6 litre W12 making 626 horsepower and a top speed of 206 miles per hour.
