Can't go wrong with a Kinsmart Pullback!

It has been a while since we've shown Kinsmart some love here on LaLD. I've finally shot my blue McLaren F1 GTR that I picked up at Michael's forever ago. For those of you unfamiliar with Kinsmarts, take a second look at the rack of diecasts in your local pharmacy. What often get passed over as toys are actually decent scale models.

At first glace, the McLaren is a pull-back motorized kid's toy. Then you notice the butterfly doors open skyward and hang there long enough for you to snap a picture. The wheels are accurately detailed and have real rubber tires. The lens on the tails and headlamps are clear and free from unsightly mounting posts.

This is no children's toy; it's a full detailed model at an unpopular scale that are both abundantly available and cheap to be had. Like I said, I picked up this one at Michael's pre-pandemic, and you know I had one of their ever present 40% off coupons to boot! This one sits on my desk next to my Vulcan, and I'll be sure to pick up some more once I'm comfortable perusing the stores once again.

    • I wonder how easy/hard it is to make a reverse version of the UenoClinic livery on that white model.

  • A few things to note:

You found an F1?! The best I got from my CVS was a Continental GT Speed.

Pullbacks are the ultimate bargain, I’d know I have way too many.

And, lastly, thanks for featuring my article down there 😁

  • Kinsmart is underrated. Of the medium-format scales, they're the ultimate play/display king, and the standard against which other 1/3x are measured. And their casting picks are improving year-on-year, meaning there's a car for anyone who likes it.

Just wish I had space for these. 1/32 and 1/36 is still too big.
