Perhaps the most important part of driving, (aside from the car) is the road. Crafted to get you from A-B, these snaking lines of concrete are the lifeblood of a car enthusiast. And while the majority of roads are filled with potholes and broken down trucks, there are a select few that stand out from the crowd, and these are the greatest roads on Earth. Today, I'm looking at the 5 greatest roads on Earth, where they are, and why they are so great. I'll also link a website for each one.

I hope you enjoy.

Note: I am not including the Nurburgring in this list. While it is technically a road, it mainly serves as a racetrack.

(In No Particular Order)

As an Australian, I feel obligated to add this incredible road to this list. With winding roads continuing on for nearly 250km, this 8th wonder of the world is incredibly deserving of it's title. This road is well known for turning any car into a fun car, regardless of size. Beware however, newcomers to Australia will want to watch out for the wildlife, and lots of it..

Few roads have capture the imagination of car enthusiasts and artists, like the Touge Roads of Mount Fuji. Touge translates to pass, and this road is certainly filled with them. Japan is the home of JDM, and there is no better road for JDM to thrive on, than Mount Fuji's Touge roads. You can awaken the inner Sean Boswell within you!

#2: The Transfagarason Highway, Romania

How could I make a list of Best Driving roads without including the Transfagarson Highway? Perhaps best known for appearing on Top Gear, as the trio searched for the greatest driving road in the world. With winding curves that slither their way to the bottom of the range, you'll have the time of your life in any speed machine you can find. The brainchild of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, it cuts through the picturesque Fagaras Mountain range.

#1: The Autobahn, Germany

Whilst it may not be the most aesthetically pleasing road, it is the most appealing to a car enthusiast, as over 50% of the highway has no speed limit, allowing for automotive freedom. This is easily enough credibility for it's instillment on this list.

  • The Blue Ridge Parkway, 469 miles threaded across the top of the Appalachian mountains with great views, lots of tunnels and no stop signs.

  • What about Route 1 in northern California?

  • It’s between the Transfagaran (excuse spelling) and the Autobahn. The Romanian one would be better if it was closed especially for you, but nothing beats bombing it down the motorway, overtaking everything (and there’s nowhere better for that than Germany, because there isn’t any speed limits for 70% of Autobahns and they have excellent lane discipline)
