5 Predictions For Formula E Season 5

Formula E has really come into its own over the past few years. With exciting wheel-to-wheel racing, drivers who were considered afterthoughts revitalising their careers, and the introduction of the beautiful Gen2 cars - Season 5 of Formula E is shaping up to be its best yet. With that in mind, I've gazed into my figurative crystal ball of destiny and come up with five predictions for the new season...

5) NIO WILL BE AT THE FOOT OF THE GRID

Despite finishing in the points seven times last season (with Turvey taking 2nd place in Mexico) - NIO will struggle to get near those heights again in Season 5. Despite having a fairly decent driver lineup, if pre-season testing is anything to go by - Turvey and Dillmann will find it very difficult to keep up with the rest of the field, unless big changes are made to their car throughout.

4) GEOX DRAGON WILL ALSO FIND LIFE VERY DIFFICULT

With their 2015/16 race winner Jerome D'Ambrosio leaving for Mahindra - Dragon will struggle to gain any real momentum in Season 5. Jose Maria Lopez didn't exactly set the world alright in Season 4 (with 6th place being his highest race finish) - and if it wasn't for D'Ambrosio's 3rd place finish in Zurich, Dragon might've finished bottom of the team standings. Expect the same struggles to carry on for the American outfit, as both they and NIO battle to stay away from the wooden spoon.

3) STOFFEL VANDOORNE WILL DO WELL WITH HWA RACELAB

Let's face it - Stoffel Vandoorne's time in F1 wasn't a true reflection on his undoubted talent. However, with some solid testing done for HWA - don't be surprised to see Vandoorne and teammate Gary Paffett (a two-time DTM champion, one with HWA themselves) do well in their inaugural season of Formula E - and even challenge for race wins...

2) DANIEL ABT TO CHALLENGE FOR (AND POSSIBLY WIN) THE DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP

If he hadn't suffered such bad luck last year, Daniel Abt would've probably been challenging for the Drivers Championship. One look at his performances last season suggests that Abt is on the verge of becoming drivers champion, and it would be a definite feel-good story for him to finally ascend to the top of the Formula E mountain in Season 5. However, this all depends on whether or not Audi can give him a car that can match this last entry...

1) BMW-I ANDRETTI TO BE THE TOP TEAM IN SEASON 5

Bloody hell - I was not expecting the newly christened BMW i Andretti team to be this quick! If pre-season testing figures (kindly supplied by e-racing.net) are anything to go by, then we could be in for a season of dominance from the BMW Andretti outfit. With Antonio Felix da Costa and Alexander Sims piloting the two machines, there is a very good chance that one of them could be drivers champion by the season's end. Let me remind you - before BMW stepped in, Andretti finished bottom of the team standings with 24 points, which they could exceed after the first race of Season 5 in Riyadh...
