SUVs as we know it are taking over the car industry, it is definitely no secret, it is also no secret that there are also racing SUVs but when you say racing SUV, you end up picturing a off road bashing dunes and snow. But what you do not see is a SUV tearing up the tarmac tracks, and with that this is 5 race SUVs that are not offroaders.

This is what a you think of when you hear racing SUV(Also this is a sick photo)

1) Dacia Duster Pikes Peak

GOOD NEWS, its a racing Dacia Duster time attack/ Pikes Peak car.

GOOD NEWS!!

GOOD NEWS!!

Yes I know its been a thing for awhile and yes I know its not really a duster but it still has the body of the SUV(though a lot lower than usual) and is really really cool. For those who do not know, this is/was a Dacia Duster but gone is the normal 4 cylinder, instead in its place is a 850hp VR38DETT engine from a Nissan GTR mounted in the middle or rear and with the complimentary wing/wang on the rear of the car. This BEAST of a car raced at Pikes Peak in 2011 and this is not the only racing Duster though as Dacia also raced the Duster in Andros Ice Trophy and Paris Dakar rally. So the Duster is actually more interesting than you think, this is actually my favorite car on this list, read through the rest of this and tell me your favorite out of all of these.

2) Lamborghini Urus STX

This is probably not gonna happen due to covid

This is probably not gonna happen due to covid

Next on the list is a series that does not seem to be happening due to this virus that has steamrolled and bombed our economy, anyway before that I could not find much on this series as all i could find was that this is going to be a thing and there is a Lego set for this car.

This and the 1 above are the only pictures I could find

This and the 1 above are the only pictures I could find

Now I would just assume that they just took a normal Urus and just gave it the basic race car treatment like suspension and seats but given the fact that the Urus is pretty capable on its own I imagine that it would be a decent series to watch.

3) Jaguar I-pace eTrophy

They really should sell the bodykit...

They really should sell the bodykit...

And now for an actual racing SUV/crossover, the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy is basically a modified I-Pace with fenders and the huge wing and a stripped out interior and is a support race series for the ABB FIA Formula E championship with a bunch of these racing around the tracks that Formula E cars race on like Berlin and Hong Kong. The car itself has the stock motor, battery and inverter so power is the same and Top Gear magazine has driven and reviewed one which you can read here.

4) Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak

Gran Turismo nostalgia

Gran Turismo nostalgia

Next on this list is perhaps the most crazy and iconic, the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak was and is a Gran Turismo icon, somewhat but not really based on the Escudo/Vitara of the time, the Escudo Pikes Peak had a mid mounted twin turbo V6 that made 986hp and it weighed 800 kg. Although this car never won at Pikes Peak it was immortalized in Gran Turismo for being able to do really stupid stuff at very high speeds

5) Mercedes racecar-inspired Project Geländewagen

A racing brick

A racing brick

Now for what you saw in the cover photo. THIS, is a Mercedes G wagon, or Geländewagen but as you can see, its quite low, and if you can see through the net, a roll cage. Yep, this is a racing g wagon. This was a collaboration between a called Virgil Abloh, creative director and founder of Off-White, and the men’s artistic director of Louis Vuitton, and Merc’s design boss Gordon Wagener. Once the car is built, it will be auctioned off by Sotheby’s in support of the international creative communities.

To make it, this g wagon has been widened and lowered, fitted with very big wheels and big tires on the outside. On the inside the interior has been entirely stripped and an F1-style steering wheel and seats, five-point harnesses are fitted as part as the standard race car stuff

Thanks for reading!!

As with all kinds of lists, I obviously missed something and feel free to fill in what I had missed in the comments below and of course, thanks for taking time to read this list.
