Alright so at first I want to point out that I am not a Tesla Fanboy! I happen to like what the brand has been doing and what it achieved in the past few years but I am not a Fanboy. And altough it is pretty unpopular among petrolheads to like Tesla, let me just try to state my opinion.

It's incredibly ahead of it's time

So this is probably the most obvious point which is the easiest to be explained through some examples I guess: Tesla brought a fully electric limousine that could easily keep up with the petrol-powered ones back when everyone else thought that EV's were just small, expensive city cars that were extremely ugly and which you had to recharge for hours. Tesla put an IPad onto the center console of a car when everyone else was becoming desperate with overflows of buttons, touch screens that didn't work and utterly slow infotainement systems. Tesla brought a (nearly) autonomous car back when every other brand was just playing around with prototypes. Tesla built a network of charging stations when everyone else was charging their EV on standard sockets at home. And so on...

It's doing things different

They laugh at me because I’m different; I laugh at them because they’re all the same.

Now, it's obvious that there are some things that can't really be called "ahead of it's time". The gullwing doors on the Model X or the design of the Cybertruck for example. But the thing is that the company is trying out something new and is doing things different. It brings something crazy into the automotive world. And if you get asked in 10 years which car you most remember from this decade chances are high it won't be any Porsche 911 or Toyota Supra or anything like that but the Tesla Cybertruck. Kurt Cobain once said "They laugh at me because I’m different; I laugh at them because they’re all the same". And I think this sentence fits Tesla perfectly.

Elon Musk

The problem most people have with Elon I guess is that he is simply not a man you would expect to run a giant company like Tesla. He is rather the little 6-year-old boy who wants to be the best in every way and doesn't know what the word "serious" means. Here is a little example: A few months ago there was a porn movie circulating through the internet which was performed in a Tesla driving on the autopilot feature. Now every other brand I can think of would just sue everyone involved into making that video because it has "destroyed the image of the brand" or something like that. But not Elon. What he did instead is posting this sentence on Twitter: "Turns out there’s more ways to use Autopilot than we imagined"

The Humour

And that brings us straight onto the next point which is the humour of the brand. Now lots of you may argue that Party-Modes, Roadsters flying through the cosmos and weird Easter-Eggs are not funny but just childish. But I think that exactly that is what makes it funny. It's the fact that in this grey and dull automotive world where everyone is just deadpan and bloody serious there exsists this little clown called Tesla who is just having fun.

In 10 years Tesla achieved more than other companies in 100 years

But the most astonishing thing is that Tesla has gone its way from a small start-up company, barely known, producing just one model and only a handful of cars every year to a company that is one of the most innovative, most talked about, most controversal and has one of the biggest communities ever just during the last decade! Brands like Ford or Mercedes needed over 100 years to establish themselves in the automotive world and Tesla just came out of nowhere and has even overtaken the big brands in many ways. Achieving that is something very special and I just have great respect for Tesla concerning that.
