5 supercars the new Mercedes A45 AMG S can beat to 60mph

Hot hatches are getting quicker and quicker each generation and the latest addition to the Mercedes fleet is no different. The all new A45 AMG S boasts 416bhp and is capable of 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds thanks to its turbo-charged 2 litre engine which stretches the term 'hot' in the hot hatch to a new level. But just how fast is it?

Here's a list of 5 supercars that the A45 can beat to 60mph.

Ferrari F430 - 4.2 seconds

Despite being one of the fastest production cars at the time of its arrival, it's now shadowed by the A45's blistering performance. Even with its fantastic naturally aspirated V8 engine and a 0-60 time of 4.2 seconds, it just can't quite make it.

Lamborghini Gallardo (Gen 1) - 4 seconds

Another Italian supercar comes in as the first generation Gallardo. It was the best thing that happened to Lamborghini with masses of numbers sold globally but even with its help of four wheel drive it doesn't match up. It could 'only' catch 60 mph in 4 seconds, merely 0.3 seconds behind the A45.

Porsche 997 GT3 -4.2 seconds

The 911 GT3 is widely considered to be the best track focused supercar, especially the 997 generation with its raw drive, smooth and direct gearbox and fantastic traction throughout but lacking straight line speed means 0-60 could only be dealt with in 4.2 seconds if launched correctly.

Aston Martin DBS - 4.1 seconds

Starring in the James Bond film Casino Royale, the DBS took the existing DB9 and turned it into a capable supercar. Housing a naturally aspirated 6-litre V12 engine with 510 bhp, it was a heavy beast weighing in at 1,700kg meaning 0-60 could only be achieved in 4.1 seconds.

Audi R8 V8 - 4.1 seconds

The first generation Audi R8 will always remain a favourite for me, especially the V8 variant with a manual gearbox. The design still looks modern today despite being over a decade old. The 4.2-litre V8 is more than adequate but still takes 4.1 seconds to 60.
