Toyota has recently unveiled a new sportscar, the GR86, equipped with a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine producing 235PS, making it capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (or 62mph) in 6.3 seconds, and today I'll tell you 5 supercars it beats in the acceleration figure.

Ferrari 400i

0-100: 6.8 seconds

If I told you a V12 Ferrari was slower than a Toyota, would you believe me? It certainly is the case if we talk about the 400i. We can think of it as the predecessor to the GTC4 lusso and the FF, it was a 2+2 Ferrari that had a 4.8 liter V12 that made it hit a top speed of 245 km/h (152mph).

Ferrari 308 GTSI

0-100: 7.8 seconds

The 308 wasn't a slow car either, we can think of it as the Ferrari F8 of the 70s and 80s. The GTSi had a mid-mounted 3.0 liter V8 and was capable of hitting a top speed of 226 km/h (141mph).

Porsche 928 S

0-100: 6.5 seconds

The 928 was a V8 supercar built by Porsche in the 1970s, 80s and 90s that was meant to replace the 911. The S was the version up from the standard car, it had a 4.7 liter V8 producing 310hp and could hit a top speed of 261 km/h (162mph).

Lamborghini Jalpa

0-100: 6.5 seconds

The Jalpa is another car that wasn't slow back in the day, it was to the Countach what the Huracan is to the Aventador today. It had a mid-mounted 3.5 liter engine and was capable of hitting a top speed of 243 km/h (151mph).

Lamborghini LM002

0-100: 7.8 seconds

The LM002 was a heavy SUV but it wasn't slow either, it had the 5.2 liter V12 from the Countach and was faster in the 0 to 100 km/h sprint than the Lamborghini Espada. It was the first super SUV but that still didn't make it faster than the GR86 is today.

  • Shouldn’t you be comparing the Toyota with new super cars, as the technology the new gr86 houses will be way better than that of an 80s Ferrari

    Also isn’t the LM002 an off-roader?

    • I would've but those are much faster than the GR86, and I'd call the LM002 the first "super SUV"

  • I am struggling to find what you designate as a supercar lol, id consider the 928 and 400l to be grand tourers, and the lm002 an SUV/offroader type thing

  • Honestly... Its unnecessary to have articles like this.

The car is a cheap, light, RWD sports car with what looks like one of the strongest NA 4 bangers we've ever seen, so for its piece of motoring fame its in a fine position.

The car doesn't need to beat old supercars, or electric econocars that do 0-60 in 4 seconds. It represents everything that we will be losing/have lost in the world - manual, lightweight, and engaging cars.

The future is heavy, automated, and really fast in a straight line.

    • I 100% agree with you, I just found fun on seeing what it could beat on a straight line
