5 things to watch out for at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix
The long winter break is no more. Formula 1 is back.
20 of the fastest cars and drivers in the world will line up on the grid in Albert Park, Melbourne, to kick off the 2019 Formula 1 season - and we can't wait, this season could be a classic.
As usual, testing has been difficult to read, but general trends and storylines have emerged. Ferrari look quick, Williams are in trouble, and yellow really suits Daniel Ricciardo.
Here are five things to watch out for at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix:
FERRARI VS MERCEDES
Yes, it's an obvious one to look out for, but 2019 is set to be another titanic battle between Ferrari and Mercedes. The Scuderia appears to have a small edge heading into round one, but expect it to be super close between Hamilton and Vettel this weekend. And let's not forget young Charles Leclerc either...
The race in Albert Park marks the first race for Daniel Ricciardo since he left the Red Bull team at the end of 2018. The smiley Australian will make his race debut with the Renault team at his home Grand Prix this weekend - can he spring a surprise?
RETURN OF THE BULL?
Speaking of Red Bull, the Austrian outfit makes its debut with Honda power this weekend. Can their new engine suppliers launch back to the front? It seems unlikely to happen immediately, but who knows. Max Verstappen is fired up, and Pierre Gasly has a point to prove after a smashing time in testing.
NEW DAWN FOR MCLAREN
For the first time since 1994, McLaren begin a season with two drivers who have never won a Grand Prix. It's certainly unchartered territory for the Woking based team, but the mood is still buoyant. Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris are definitely an exciting driver line up going forward in 2019.
No matter how he performs, this weekend is a milestone for Robert Kubica. The Polish driver makes his full time return to Formula 1 after his horrific rally accident in 2011. Every sport needs a feel good story, particularly this one. We wish Robert all the best for the season ahead!
