50 years ago, Volkswagen invented an amphibious car

Back in 70s, VW preceded Top Gear by around 30 years and built an amphibious vehicle. It was called the ‘Busse’.

It was powered by a 1.6-litre, 55-hp engine with a 3-speed transmission and a torque converter. The top speed was 28 mph on land and 10 mph on water.

It was built in Randolph, a town in Wisconsin, and it was a 6x6 ATV and it was actually available in the market, priced at $4,875 (around $40,000 in today’s money).
