570S Spider battles R8 Spyder & AMG GT C Roadster in drag race - who wins?
You have to check out this awesome drag race between several drop-top supercars.
There’s nothing particularly clever about a number of cars racing each other in a straight line - but that fact doesn’t dampen our fascination with them. In this particular drag race, we see the drop-top versions of the McLaren 570S, Audi R8 V10, Mercedes AMG GT C, and BMW i8 battle it out to see which is fastest.
“Hang on”, you’ll be thinking, “BMW i8? Surely you jest?”. I’m afraid not, my good people. For some reason, a BMW i8 was raced alongside all of the massively more powerful supercars. Perhaps the existence of the 911 Turbo was forgotten when choosing a 4th contender. Or maybe Carwow couldn’t get hold of one for whatever reason.
During the first race that you’ll see in the above video, each car has to put down their roof before blasting off down the runway. Given how they the amount of time for each to complete this differs, it was the Mercedes that won, followed by the BMW (amazingly), then the McLaren, with the Audi coming home last.
After this, then finally did a proper drag race. Despite the Audi’s 4WD system allowing it to get off to a better start, the sheer power of the McLaren resulted in it being reeled in easily. While the Mercedes is also more powerful than the Audi - with 552bhp compared to the R8’s 533 - it span its wheels on the start line, wasting valuable time that the Audi and McLaren took advantage of.
The final race took the launch out of the equation as it was held from 30mph. In this race, the amazing torque and response from the Mercedes resulted in it leaping ahead. The McLaren paused momentarily in the Audi’s blind spot, before pulling away in pursuit of the AMG, finally catching it towards the end. If you ask me, it’s one hell of an entertaining race!
Just before we rap things up, tell me: what’s your favourite car from the video? Let me know in the comments.
