Would you settle for a regular Ultimate Driving Machine, or do you want a 600+ horsepower monster. If the latter suits you, BMW has just unveiled the perfect car - the 2022 BMW M5 Competition Sport (CS). It will be available for just one model year, 2022, and offers a plethora of improvements over the M5 Competition.
BMW has rid the M5 CS of weight, making it 230 pounds lighter than Competition models thanks to an abundance of carbon fiber. Components like the hood, front splitter, mirror housings, and rear diffuser are made out of the weight-saving material, and it continues on the inside. The M5 CS interior is minimized as well, with the rear bench being replaced with two bucket seats and a center console with no storage. In addition, some sound deadening has been removed in order to save weight and deliver more engine noise to the cabin.
Outside, forged 20-inch wheels in gold bronze are standard and Pirelli P Zero Corsa are equipped, as are carbon-ceramic brakes. Also in gold bronze is the front grille and badges, and new colors are obtainable: Frozen Deep Green and Frozen Brands Hatch Gray. Even cooler still, the headlights emit light with a yellow tint, a homage to BMW's race cars. Also outside is a quad-tip stainless steel exhaust, which is designed to deliver the engine's growl louder, and hiding behind its magnificent wheels are tweakable springs and dampers.
The changes don't stop there though, inside the 2021 M5 CS a plethora of additions can be found. These include CS badges on the dashboard and between the rear seats, a Nürburgring silhouette on the headrests, and an Alcantara headliner and steering wheel. Sitting between the front seats, sadly, isn't the sign of a manual transmission, but the controls to an 8-speed automatic. Under the hood lies a 4.4 L V8 that produces a whopping 627 horsepower, a figure that pushes the sedan to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 190 mph.
The 2022 BMW M5 CS will go on sale in the U.S later this year starting at $142,995.
