7 cars we can't wait to see in sim racing
Dear Gran Turismo, Assetto Corsa and Project Cars - let's make sure these cars make it to our sims the second they're officially launched. No excuses.
The amount of crazy automotive machinery heading our way in the next year or so has all of us quivering with excitement, with truly era-defining cars heading our way. Although many of the upcoming products from Aston, McLaren and Mercedes are far more suited to the track than for the road, the latest shift in the endurance racing rules for 2020 could make these cars all the more relevant, especially so in the gaming world.
As an avid sim racer, I can't wait to spend hours getting to know these cars via the DriveTribe office rig. With my thumbs ready to course through every setup option possible, here are the cars I'm looking forward to seeing featured in the big gaming titles.
Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro
The joint project between Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing was turned up a notch at Geneva when the track-only, shark-finned Valkyrie AMR Pro was unveiled. With enough downforce to theoretically drive upside down and a 1000bhp+ naturally aspirated V12, I can't think of a greater VR experience than lapping this hypercar at Le Mans.
Adrian Newey's diffusers and Venturi tunnels may be pretty tough for the graphics guys to work around but with a sorted physics package, this could be the ultimate lap time machine.
Brabham BT62
The freshest face in the track hypercar scene, the BT62 is a 700bhp weapon that sits nicely between GT3 cars and Le Mans prototypes.
Sitting at just under a 1000kg, the Brabham is purely built to annihilate track records and therefore would be perfectly suited to Assetto Corsa or Project Cars 2.
Porsche 919 Evo
There is a 919 Evo mod that can be found already on Assetto Corsa, but it would be incredible to bring this car to a wider audience through the likes of Gran Turismo.
Seeing as the game has recently released a timely Le Mans update, maybe the developers should give the unrestricted Porsche a chance, if only to show the stark difference between standard LMP1 cars and this ultra downforce, fiendishly powerful racer.
Jaguar XE SV Project 8
So this special edition Nurburgring slayer has featured in Need For Speed: No Limits, but we're yet to see it inserted into a proper sim to see what the 592bhp super saloon can do.
Considering it currently holds the four-door record at the 'ring, it would be one hell of a gaming challenge to try and match or beat the 7 minute 21 second lap.
Mercedes-AMG Project One
LMP looks, endless aero trickery and the engine from Lewis Hamilton's F1 car from last year - I never thought I'd yearn for a 1.6-litre car to be in a game but the AMG Project One will surely be up there as being one of the greatest cars of the decade.
The turbo hybrid engine will need to be heavily tweaked and detuned to make it function on the road and at a generic track day. But I'd love to see it appear as a secret edition to the next F1 game. Codemasters, we hope you're listening.
BMW M8 GTE
After a sterling effort at this year's Le Mans 24 Hours, the brutish BMW M8 GTE will be with us in the gaming sphere very soon via rFactor 2.
Considering how epic the GTE Pro race was at La Sarthe, setting up a sim race featuring the Ford GT, 488, 911 RSR and the M8 would make for hours of epic racing.
McLaren Senna GTR
The Senna GTR is the ultimate McLaren these days and will probably stay at the top of the tree until the BP23 rears its head. Its features are truly from the ridiculous world of gaming, with a front splitter to end all front splitters and one of the most aggressive rear diffusers you'll ever see.
I haven't really gelled with a McLaren on DriveTribe's sim rig yet – the F1 GTR is the closest thing to having a properly engaging drive in a McLaren on Project Cars. But I can almost guarantee that the Senna GTR will change that. The 'normal' Senna is coming in the next Forza game so we'll give that a bash too.

Decent selection, particularly the Senna GTR. The standard one isn't exactly short on performance (as I'm finding out today)!
The 919 is available on project cars 2 as part of the le mans DLC, and it's as amazing as you would expect.
Isn't that the standard 919, not the Evo? Still a great car though!
You're probably correct. I think it's the 2017 919. I took it for a few laps but got back in the 911 RSR, which is still my favorite car on there.
919 Evo because we all know how fast it is. The valkyrie and project one are just quick money making schemes for high end clients. Which is why we have no footage of either of them.
Please do not do MERCEDES-AMG PROJECT ONE, this is not a machine, but a spaceship)
koenigsegg agera rs would be awesome
