8 cars that can take your family to 200mph
If you want to do 200mph, it'd be nice to take the wife and kids along for the ride.
If you have even the slightest trace of petrol flowing through your veins, 200mph will be a speed you’ll want to achieve at some point in your life. Whether it be because you simply want to know what it feels like, or whether you just want to be able to tell your friends that you’ve driven a car at the double tonne, it is a speed heralded as exclusively achievable by only the very fastest machines around.
Amongst all the supercars that can reach 200mph sits a scattering of more practical and luxurious offerings that could, potentially, enable you to drive up to 200mph and beyond with your wife and kids on board. Of course, I can’t guarantee your marriage would survive such an ordeal - but what a great reason to be at the divorce courts! And with that out the way, here’s 8 cars that could take you and your family all the way to 200mph.
Cadillac CTS-V

The 3rd generation CTS-V might have neglected to include a wagon amongst its line-up, but it’s still one hell of a competent car as a “sedan”. With a 6.2L supercharged V8 developing 640bhp, it’ll hit 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds, and eventually reach a top speed of 201mph.
Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo Touring

Given that BMW no longer makes Touring versions of their M-cars, Alpina’s commitment to the super-estate is something I personally find very heartening. Alpina’s modifications both lace the car with additional luxury, and give it extra speed. The 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8 develops 600bhp and 590lb-ft of torque, which despite the car weighing over 2 tonnes, makes it good for 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of exactly 200mph. According to Alpina, that makes this the world’s fastest production estate.
Bentley Flying Spur W12 S

There’s no denying that the Flying Spur is a luxury limo rather than a family car. But given the number of seats, if you had a sizeable cheque book, there’s nothing technically stopping a person from buying this for their family, and then using it to scare them shitless at 200mph. With a Twin-Turbo W12 sending 626bhp to all four wheels, this mighty piece of excellence can haul itself from 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds, and onwards to a top speed of 202mph.
Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat

Despite its blunt simplicity, the Hellcat is a car I’d genuinely like to own. It might have the agility of a mountain, but to me, there’s something mightily appealing about a brute-force muscle car - especially when it comes with 4-doors for the rest of the family! Updated for this year, the new Charger Hellcat comes with 717bhp from its signature 6.2L supercharged V8. That makes it good for 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds, and a top speed of 206mph.
Ferrari GTC4Lusso

While the GTC4Lusso might not have 4 doors, its back seats are large enough for grown men to get comfy and fall asleep on a long journey. The practicality this car offers simply isn’t in keeping with its Ferrari DNA - but its capabilities are beyond question. The 6.3L normally aspirated V12 delivers the classic Ferrari soundtrack, along with sending 681bhp charging at all 4 wheels. That means 0-60mph in 3.3 seconds, and a top speed of 208mph.
Aston Martin Rapide AMR

Distinctly less luxurious than all other entries on this list is the Aston Martin Rapide AMR. Replacing the otherwise comfy seats of the standard Rapide with carbon buckets, this is a car to give the family a more characterful insight into your automotive personality. The glorious 6L normally aspirated V12 that has since been dropped from Aston’s line up produces 595bhp, which is enough to get this long piece of metal from 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds, and onwards to an exciting top speed of 210mph. When released back in 2017, its top speed made it the fastest 4-door saloon on sale. In order to celebrate that fact, Aston limited production to 210 units - all of them costing around £200,000.
Brabus GLK V12

If saloons or estates aren’t your thing however, then perhaps what you need is this 9 year old SUV from German purveyors of sensible insanity Brabus. With a 6.3L Twin-Turbo V12, this is an SUV that develops 740bhp and 996lb-ft of torque. While the 0-60mph time of 3.9 seconds is impressive, it's the top speed that really forms the point of this tuned nutcase. Having been tested to 200mph, Brabus are adamant that given enough space, it will eventually run out of breath at 211mph! And remember, this is an SUV!
Brabus Rocket 800

Officially the quickest way to end your marriage, the Brabus Rocket 800 currently holds the title of world's fastest 4-door saloon. Using the same 6.3L Twin-Turbo V12 as the GLK above - tuned up even further to produce 789bhp, and 1047lb-ft of torque - the Rocket 800 is a Mercedes CLS that's been finished off with a gargantuan dollop of horsepower. Capable of hitting 60mph from a standstill in 3.6 seconds, it'll eventually reach an incredible top speed of 231mph.

Amazingly, Brabus offer an even more powerful 4-door in the form of the S-Class based Rocket 900. Despite its 888bhp, and colossal 1106lb-ft of torque that Brabus had to limit to 885lb-ft, the top speed is listed as 217mph.
Out of all the cars listed above, which would you like to drive away in the most. Let me know by voting below.

That GLK looks like a Korean budget 'sports' SUV
straight facts
I like the Alpina. It's a bit of a sleeper. You could surprise a few people with that.
That's exactly the one I'd go for too. Only the trained eye could distinguish it from a regular 5-Series, yet it's packed with practicality, performance, and luxury.
The Hellcat would be more fun, but the Apina more sensible.
CLS Estate is one of my favourites, Brabus should make a rocket 900 SB
The Charger wins only because it is the most accessible of the choices.
The charger is not a good family car. The rear headroom and overall space, is shockingly bad. I had a chance to sit in back of one once, twice. The charger is actually a four door coupé, not a standard saloon
Lucky you sat in one, but not many of these are great family cars. Take in account the fact that half of these are worth the amount of an average American house, or scary amount of power for something you should not be going very fast in with kids...
