8 present ideas for a petrol head Christmas

On the last minute shop with Christmas around the corner?

2y ago

It may not seem that we've put on a very festive front, at all actually. Truth be told it has just crept up on us this year and suddenly we find ourselves three days from Christmas. So if you're on the last minute rush and currently staring into space wondering what you can get for your car fiend then look no further!

Note: You may struggle with delivery times but none the less we thought this could be a good article to help you on your way!

The ideas are broad and range from stocking fillers to what could be main presents, so let's take a look at some of my personal favourites.

1. Lorry driving experience- £150

A far cry from the illustrious track days that allow you to hoon a Lamborghini around. Hear me out though, it's something different and a bit off the cuff, but if said recipient wants to be a lorry driver or even just wants to drive one, this is a great opportunity to do so without the pressure of the real roads.

The experiences are hosted across different tracks, with one of them being the location they film Top Gear, Dunsfold Aerodrome. The experience consists of driving a 45ft long DAF XF truck with 16 gears and 480 bhp, you will do a slalom through cones, learn how to reverse the thing and also just get to experience going through the gears to see how it drives. An HGV instructor guides you through this.

It's something I would love to try at some point.

2. Dads Top Beer pint glass- £9.99

Something fun for the car loving dads of the world who like beer. In a style that is clearly a nod to Top Gear, this is a well themed glass and you can even put a personal message on it if you like too. Just make sure you buy his favourite beer to go in it or the phrase ' Top beer ' may become a bit redundant.

3. Detailing kit

For those that absolutely cannot abstain from cleaning there car for very long at all, it may be worth looking at a detailing kit. I haven't listed a price because there are so many cleaning kits around. So instead I'll give you a few names that you can start with such as Autoglym, Autofinesse and Meguiars.

The great thing with these is that there are different levels, so you can start with something for the car cleaning enthusiast right up to someone who wants to give their car the full monty of valeting.

4. Socket set/ tools

A brilliant idea for your home mechanic, maybe they are working on a project car or just like to get into the nitty gritty themselves before taking the car to a professional. For these, Halfords (UK) is a great place to start if occasionally you'll need some tools to do the job here and there.

So, I'll leave a link down below to their tool website where you can look at socket sets and all manner of tools a car person may need for the rough times.

Can be bought here: www.halfords.com/workshop-tools?cm_re=mmworkshop-_-WorkshopTools-_-Workshop

5. Haynes model V8 combustion engine- £44.99

More aimed a the younger years, although there's no reason it can't be fun for everyone, is the Haynes model V8 combustion engine. This is a great little kit as you get to build a model motorized version of a V8 engine.

It comes with sound and lighting as if it is really combusting, it would be an amazing present for a technical minded person who loves putting things together! I suggest you watch the video to get an idea of how good it is!

6. Timing chain clock- £98.74

This would make great decoration for mechanic looking to decorate their bay or even just on the bedroom wall. Very much a fan of this well themed clock, the price point is an issue though!

Can be bought here: www.uncommongoods.com/product/auto-timing-chain-and-gears-wall-clock?clickid=VJGScX0iLxyJWTZ0RFzYkRCrUkgWh3wFnT3AWg0&irgwc=1&utm_source=Skimbit%20Ltd.&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_campaign=8444&utm_term=Online%20Tracking%20Link&trafficSource=Impact&sharedid=

7. General accessories

It's actually quite hard writing this article, because trawling through the internet looking for ideas is actually pretty hard. So for this one I'll just list some general things that might do well as stocking fillers for car lovers.

Some ideas: Car themed keyring, themed sweets, phone accessories, puzzles and maybe even a film. Of course Fast ad furious is a well known franchise, but films such as Baby driver and Rush are also good calls.

Sorry to be vague on that one but hopefully there's a few ideas in there you can have a think about.

8. Handspresso coffee maker- £175

A novelty gadget to say the least, but handy to have to hand if you're in a rush. You fill it with water and a coffee pod and plug it into your 12v socket. Press the go button and an espresso will be made in just 2 minutes!

As stated it is a bit of a novelty unless you really don't have the time to make a coffee, but it'd be great for those times when you don't want to mortgage a Costa coffee at a motorway service station.

Can be bought here: www.thecoffeemate.co.uk/p/coffee-machine-handpresso-auto-capsule/?campaign=Shopping%20-%20Products&ad_group={ad_group}&keyword=&matchtype=e&device=c&msclkid=c54a4c07515017986b9810191f45eb93&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping%20-%20Products&utm_term=4575067884357873&utm_content=Coffee_machines

  • From this list I’d go for the truck driving. Although if Santa is watching I’d really love a coffee table made out of a V8.
